AHMA and CHRA are working together, alongside an array of partners and community housing experts, to advocate for better housing outcomes and stability for urban Indigenous people and those with lower incomes. This week, 100 of us met in Ottawa to call on the federal government for policy improvements and increased investments to achieve the right to housing.

The Province of BC’s First Nations Equity Financing Program provides loan guarantees to help First Nations in British Columbia secure equity ownership in new or expanded revenue-generating projects within their traditional territories.

By improving access to capital, the program supports greater First Nations ownership, participation in project governance and long-term economic benefits for Nations and their communities.

Eligible projects must have total capital costs of at least $25 million and request a minimum loan guarantee of $5 million. Funding categories are available for small and medium projects valued up to $125 million, as well as large projects valued above $125 million.

This program is delivered by the Province of BC and not by New Relationship Trust.

🎉 Big support for ending homelessness!

Today, Ottawa City Council unanimously endorsed our five recommendations for the next National Housing Strategy. Next, they’re sending a letter to key decisionmakers like the PM and Minister of Housing to make sure they see the recommendations.

Thank you to Councillor Stéphanie Plante for bringing the motion forward, Councillor Ariel Troster for seconding it, and Ottawa City Council for showing their support.

Great to see the continuing momentum for solutions aimed at achieving significant, measurable reductions in homelessness and delivering housing stability for hundreds of thousands more Canadians.

It's here! Legal Unhousing: Power, Rights and Housing Precarity is officially out.

Edited by Professors Anna Lund and Sarah Buhler, this book shows how Canada's legal system quietly pushes people out of their homes, often in ways most of us never see.

We're especially proud that NRHN's Executive Director, Michèle Biss, wrote the opening chapter on homelessness, the right to life, and Canada's right to housing law.
