The cantilevered upper floor reaches out over the view deck, carried by concrete and steel below and framed against open sky and ocean beyond.

A defining move of the East elevation, and the first thing the site announces to anyone arriving.

The vision for the entry — concrete, stone, and wood brought together to create texture and depth at every turn. Each material chosen not just for what it does, but for how it feels alongside the others.

This is how the character of a home is built before a single person walks through the door.

The vision for the landscape — Paul Sangha designed staircase rising through terraced stone walls and layered plantings, leading to the front entry. Every step considered, every planting placed with the same care as the structure above.

The land and the home, designed together from the beginning.

The wooden assembly bracing this section of foundation is built to disappear: plywood panels, dimensional framing, and threaded waler rods, measured and secured for the singular purpose of confining the next pour before being stripped, broken down, and removed entirely.

What persists is the surface they author. Every panel seam, every tie-rod patch, and every edge of the form becomes part of the finished surface of the wall.

Hardware for the final structural pour. Threaded rods, bracket plates, and epoxy-coated rebar staged on gravel, ready to be tied into the footings before the concrete arrives.

Once poured, none of it will be seen. Buried in the concrete, anchoring the glazing on the lower floor.

The concrete column rising through the centre of the frame is more than it appears — it is the exterior chimney serving both floors, cast in place as a single continuous element that anchors the home structurally and architecturally.

A detail that will be seen from the outside every day, and felt from within on the quiet ones.

Concrete and stone — two materials that need no introduction. The structure emerges directly from the natural rock below, columns and slab taking shape as the form of this home becomes clear for the first time.

There is something honest about a build like this. Nothing is hidden from the land it sits on. Every decision responds to what was already here.

Steel base plates are being set into position, each one carefully located to carry the structural loads that will define this home. Anchored with precision before a single frame goes up, this is the kind of work that will never be seen once the build is complete — but its presence will be felt in every wall, every floor, every line of the finished structure.
The foundation is only the beginning. But it is where everything is decided.
