lub executives is in Health Science. You don’t know anything “special” about business? No problem. While this club has a “teaching others” components we value self-improvement and the desire to learn. Your active participation as a “student” is more than enough! Goals of the club
• Foster entrepreneurial spirit
• Encourage networking skills: your chance to meet like-minded individuals
• Make of every member a talented and confident public speaker
• Educate each other with the latest news, theories, and practices of the business community
• Develop leadership skills
• Encourage initiative and the development of presentation skills
• Spread awareness about various business-related careers. Their pros and cons, and what steps to take to get this or that job. Activities of the club
• Reading & Summarizing of bestselling business books (optional)
• PowerPoint/Oral presentation of book summaries and pertinent personal anecdotes (optional)
• Viewing and discussion of documentaries such as Inside Job or American Greed
• Viewing and discussion of business-related motivational videos
• Invitation of business professionals (maybe some Marianopolis alumni) who are in key business areas to tell us everything about their career.
• Research and discussion of recent business news

It's been an eventful week on Wall Street and most of our contestants have benefitted significantly from the recent market uptrend. We've seen some impressive trades and some not so impressive ones as well, but that's the point. We're here to learn and to gain some valuable experience.

Nowadays, stock markets are an integral part of business and it is therefore crucially important to understand what makes them tick. Granted, it may seem like a daunting task... and it is, but it's worth it.

Trying to wrap your head around something as big and as complex as a stock exchange in a single sitting is impossible. It takes time, lots of it.
But every journey has to start somewhere...

With that in mind, we proudly introduce the first of many Marianopolis Stock Market Competitions during which contestants will be given one million virtual dollars to invest as they see fit. This will allow students to trade stocks, options, etfs... all on a realistic platform.
The competition will begin tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. (the open) and will end on March 12th 2012 at 4:00 p.m. (the close), at which point the top performers will be invited to join the "Marianopolis Team" in The Gazette's "Stock Market Challenge" (http://montrealgazette.stocktrak.com/).

On behalf of The Young Executives Business Club, I would like to personally thank all of you who attended thursday's event with Vince Guzzo. Mr. Guzzo was very inspiring and conncected well with the audience! There was a great turnout and several people got a chance to win movie passes. For those who could not make it, we will try to make this year a year full of amazing events, so there will be many more opportunities! We'll keep you posted of upcoming events.

Bottom line from the talk by Patrick Shea (partner at Blakes) is: do NOT go straight into law from cegep. Do a bachelor's degree first, before your LL.B or JD. He said that he goes through 100s of CVs of aspiring lawyers and "Those who don't have a bachelor's degree are at massive disadvantage"
