Interview Wednesday: Interior Designer with the super talented

DM her for any of your design projects!

Q: What are some basic elements of design that everyone should incorporate into their home?

A: Basics of design are always form and function. Creating a beautiful space evocative of one’s aesthetic and personality but it must function properly.

Q: where to find inspiration in home design/décor?

A: Everywhere. As simplistic as it sounds, there’s inspiration to be found everywhere. This city has beautiful architecture in many styles, colors in nature, art galleries, vintage shops, restaurants, and when we’re able to travel again, that is a main source of inspiration for me. Meanwhile, there are unique artists you can follow online and many avant garde boutiques you can shop in or get inspired by for your own décor.

Q: Current trends you love, and some you don’t?

I really like soft, organic spaces these days – with a touch of interest. Never cookie-cutter and never boring. I often try to push my clients a little out of their comfort zones, but also give them a space that they feel is reflective of their personality. I like many design styles but one trend I hope goes away for a long time is large geometric trellis print patterned curtains. There was a time for these and that time was in 2008 😉

Q: what does a designer do? And who should hire one?

A designer will meet with you to understand the scope of your project & needs. The designer and her team will usually prepare designs and plans. Once plans and preliminary budgets are approved, designer will provide clients with a few choices and selections are made. Elevation drawings and/or 3D drawings are prepared and signed off by clients. Designer and her team of contractors and tradespeople take on the project from start to finish – including accessories and décor. This process can take a few months to a year, so always book your interior designer a few months prior to starting your project. Having a realistic budget is important, both for the project cost and for the design team fee. It’s usually people who don’t have the expertise or time who hire designers.

Number 1 question I received the past few weeks is:

Do you do rentals?

Well, if that question means can I represent you if you want to lease your apartment, then yes! I can. And if that means can I represent you in your search to rent an apartment, then yes! I can.

Just like in the selling or buying process, real estate brokers are trained for rental transactions as well.

Many landlords and tenants don’t even think to check in with a broker because they’re accustomed to using Craigslist or Fb marketplace. There is a whole other world of rentals out there on Centris, and off market rentals that only brokers might know about!

But wait, there’s more. Are you the type of renter who thinks buying is out of the question for YOU? Why don’t we talk about that? More times than not, people can actually afford to buy a property and build up equity, as opposed to spending that same amount in a rental. I’ve worked with people who had no idea they’d actually be able to afford buying a home, and after talking it out with myself, and of course a mortgage advisor, they then switched up their search from a rental to a purchase!

2020 has been a whirlwind. We all spent way more time at home, and for many of us that meant reevaluating many things in our lives, including our HOMES. For some it meant reorganizing, changing up the decor, or renovations, but for many it meant finding a new space entirely.
