You might feel ... at your next showing if you don’t know these 👀🏡

Furnace: this is what heats the home. It pushes warm air through the ductwork and keeps the place comfortable through cold months. Older units can mean higher utility costs or upcoming replacement, so it’s always worth checking age and maintenance history.

Breakers vs fuses: both are safety systems for the electrical panel. They shut power off when there’s an overload to prevent damage or fire risk. Breakers can simply be flipped back on, while fuses have to be replaced entirely once they blow. Most newer homes have breakers, older ones may still have fuses.

Water heater: this is what supplies hot water to your entire home, showers, sinks, dishwasher, laundry. It can be tank or tankless, and it can be owned or rented. Age matters here too, since older units are more likely to fail or leak.

Knowing this stuff at a showing isn’t about being an expert. It just helps you spot what’s normal, what might need attention, and what could cost you later.

And having an informed agent beside you means you’re not guessing in the moment, you’re making decisions with confidence.
