Most people’s mental map of the Kawartha’s starts and ends with Kent St. In Lindsay, Colborne St. In Fenelon, Highway 7 on the outskirts east & west . . . The coffee shop on the corner, the restaurants everyone recommends, the storefronts that have been there forever. And that version of the neighbourhood is great, but it is genuinely just the surface of what is going on over there right now.
Two blocks off the main road things start to get interesting in a way that most people who don’t live there haven’t caught onto yet.
Streets that are quietly being transformed one renovation at a time, pockets where long-time residents are investing in their properties in a way that signals real confidence in where the neighbourhood is heading, and a community feel that the main strip gets all the credit for but actually lives on the side streets.
We walk those blocks regularly because that is where you start to understand what a neighbourhood is actually doing versus what it looks like from the outside. And right now in town, those two things are telling very different stories.
If you want to know what is actually happening two blocks in, send me a message. It is one of our favourite conversations to have about this part of the Kawartha’s.
