JOH 440 emerging from a Bristol 170 cargo freighter on Silver City Airways.
Silver City Airways was set up in the UK in 1946, backed by Zinc Corp of Australia (Silver City was a nickname for Broken Hill, Australia). But in 1948 ownership passed to British Aviation Services and they inaugurated the world's first air ferry service, between Lympne airport in Kent and Le Touquet in France. The A40 is registered in late 1948 so presumably this is a publicity photo for that route.
