Ranch Wildlife:

Iguanas, birds, monkeys and many other small mammals like coatimundi, pecari, deer, tyra, fox, coyote, the Nicoyan variegated squirrel, and many others make the ranch their home. There have been several sightings of jungle cats including ocelots and jaguarondi, but these are rare. A 4x4 vehicle (or taxi) is the best way to reach the property, or to visit other nearby attractions. Karen Mogensen Wildlife Reserve:

The Reserve protects one of the richest ecological zones of the peninsula. Some of the attractions of the park include its flora and fauna, the beauty of the landscape and the waterfalls with crystal-clear water. The sources of most of the rivers (and drinking water) of the Nicoya Peninsula begin on the Reserve. While the primary forest on the ranch connects to the Reserve's Northwestern corridor, the park entrance is 4km (less than 2.5 miles) away via the road that passes through the towns of Rio Blanco and San Ramon. A guide from the ranch can also be requested. Fishing & Beaches:

The Gulf of Nicoya is 20 minutes by car and offers excellent fishing opportunities. The secluded Pacific beaches of Playa Coyote, Costa de Oro, and San Miguel are a 45 minute drive through beautiful country roads. In the dry season, the world class surfing beaches of Santa Teresa/Malpais can be reached in about an hour. Barra Honda National Park:

Barra Honda is a unique National Park with a large intricate system of well preserved limestone caves. For the adventurous, the Costa Rican National Park service offers equipment along with its tours of the principal chambers so that visitors can view the amazing stalactite and stalagmite formations. The park is a 45 minute drive from Casita la Reserva.
