Camila & Trent. . making music together!
That's what it's all about here in Costa Rica for Camila and Trent! Trent is from Cleveland, Ohio. He's played guitar and sang ever since he was 11 years old. He played for his church choir. His mom and dad were musicians and he was driven to carry on the family talents! Right out of college in 2015, he didn't want to start working so quickly after his graduation. He booked a trip to Costa Rica.

Soon, he found some Facebook groups that steered him towards some opportunities to play in some churches around the Central Valley. He had been studying Spanish for a few years in college, so he knew enough to be dangerous! At his first performance, Camila was his piano accompanist and wow, did they play well together. After 1,000 songs and almost 7 years later, they're still performing and making music, having fun and enjoying life.

They're married now and just gave birth to a soon-to-be drummer! Little Juan will join in soon!

My name is Dana, and every morning begins with one of my favorite sounds in the world—the aroma of fresh Costa Rican coffee brewing in the kitchen. Bill and I usually wake up just before sunrise in our comfortable home near La Sabana Park. We carry our coffee out to the patio and watch the day slowly come alive. The birds seem to have endless energy, and I often joke that they start their morning meetings much earlier than we do. After breakfast, we take a walk through the park, where familiar smiles and friendly greetings have become a cherished part of our daily routine. It still amazes me how quickly Costa Rica began to feel like home.

Most days are filled with simple pleasures. We might visit a local market, enjoy a leisurely lunch at a neighborhood soda, or run a few errands around town. With our legal residency and a monthly income of about $3,000, we live comfortably and focus on enjoying life's little moments rather than constantly rushing to the next thing. Of course, Bill keeps life entertaining. Not long ago, he confidently practiced his Spanish at a local shop and accidentally asked if they sold "flying chickens." The shopkeeper laughed, I laughed, and Bill stood there smiling, wondering what had gone wrong. Even now, whenever we visit, someone inevitably brings up the famous flying chickens.

As the afternoon fades into evening, we often find ourselves back at La Sabana Park or relaxing at home while talking about future adventures. Some weekends we head to the beach, other times we explore mountain towns, and occasionally we simply stay home and enjoy the beauty around us. What I love most about our life here is that it has taught me to slow down and appreciate the present. After years of schedules, obligations, and rushing through life, I have discovered the joy of simple moments, meaningful friendships, and peaceful mornings with the man I love. Costa Rica didn't just change where we live—it changed how we live, and for that I will always be grateful.

A BIG Thanks to Dana S. for sending their story in to us to share with all of you!

Carol Loves Coffee!
Before the roosters crow,
Before the sun peeks through,
Before the toucans start their songs,
Carol knows what to do.

She stumbles to the kitchen,
Still half asleep and bleary-eyed,
Searching for that sacred chorreador,
Her morning Pura Vida guide.

One cup wakes her up a little,
Two cups help her smile,
Three cups get her talking,
And four? She'll chat awhile.

Five cups spark great wisdom,
Six cups make her soar,
By seven cups she's planning things
No one's thought of before!

Now some folks think breakfast matters,
Or errands, work, and strife,
But Carol knows the secret truth:
Coffee is the meaning of life.

And here in Costa Rica,
Where the coffee grows with pride,
She swears the best beans in the world
Have Pura Vida brewed inside.

Each month in San Isidro,
Friends gather near and far,
For "Coffee with Carol,"
The brightest morning star.

They laugh and share their stories,
Their dreams, their plans, their way,
While Carol spreads her favorite words:
"Pura Vida" every day.

The magic isn't complicated,
No secret map to follow through,
Just good friends, great coffee,
And a cheerful "How are you?"

So if you happen to see Carol,
With a steaming cup in hand,
Don't interrupt too early—
That's a risk not wisely planned!

Just wait until cup number three,
Then pull up a chair and stay,
Because coffee starts the morning,
And Pura Vida lights the way.

Coffee with Carol — proving every month in San Isidro that great friendships, great conversations, and great Costa Rican coffee can solve almost anything. Or at least make it seem like they can. Pura Vida! Contact her at Carol Blair Vaughn and get signed up for "Coffee with Carol." You'll be GLAD you did! https://www.facebook.com/CarolBlairVaughn
