Last year, I stood here watching this beautiful sunrise over Brasilito, trying to be fully present and soak in the moment, while quietly hoping and praying I'd be able to enjoy this place for at least one more year.

Today, one year later, I'm standing here with gratitude and a smile on my face, thinking back to that morning and everything that has happened in just one year..

So today, I'd love to leave you with a simple exercise.

Imagine yourself one year from now. Where are you? Who are you with? What does your life look like?

I hope 2027 finds you standing in places you once dreamed about, building a life that feels deeply your own🤍

the truth is...

Costa Rica won't change because you move here.
Costa Rica won't change because you're here.
Costa Rica won't change because you leave.

Costa Rica will always be Costa Rica,
and you're the one who needs to adapt.

I've lived in Costa Rica my entire life❤️

I never imagined I'd move abroad, yet in 2023, I left everything behind and moved to Mérida, Mexico in just two weeks — with my belgian malinois and my cat. I paid the price for rushing and being unprepared. I really did. Not fun, don't do that!

Less than a year later, I moved again, this time to Dubai — with only a carry-on and a handbag. Better move, no pets, but it still took about six months to finally feel settled.

Now, picture a Costa Rican girl trying to figure out life in a city like Dubai..

I didn't understand anything. I didn't even know what I could wear, or where I was and wasn't allowed to be. I couldn't pronounce the street names or places properly. No clue how to appropriately communicate, respect holidays, or navigate cultural and religious customs like Ramadan, without even realizing when I was being disrespectful.

I felt lost 100% of the time, and even the smallest things added extra stress on top of a new job, visa and banking paperwork, health insurance and housing.

Figuring out which supermarket to go to, I ended up visiting every one I could just to find the shiitake mushrooms I was craving one day. I refused to accept a place like Dubai didn't have them somewhere. It felt like a mission.

Buying a simple yogurt felt like a losing battle without knowing the brands or being able to read the labels — I'd grab 3, hoping I'd like 1. Playing the odds, you know, 33.3% chance..

Moving abroad is exciting, and people love to romanticize it, but it's always something — you prepare for the obvious, and the smallest things get you.

One thing I've learned: Good preparation isn't just about logistics, or obsessing over avoiding every mistake. It's about avoiding the ones you don't need to make.

Be honest, and tell me I'm not the only one who's stood in a supermarket staring at a wall of unfamiliar products wondering... do I really need this? could someone just tell me which one I should get🙏😅

Golf carts make me happy😃🤍

There's something about slowing down, feeling the ocean breeze, putting on your favorite playlist, and cruising around Flamingo and Surfside that just makes every day a little more fun.

Whether I'm heading to the gym, playing tennis, running a quick grocery errand, or spending the afternoon at the beach, a golf cart is my favorite way to get around.

I've driven quite a few over the years, and I have to say —I absolutely love the fleet at Coastal Cart Co. They're modern, super comfortable, road-legal, incredibly well maintained, and one of my favorite things about them is that they handle Costa Rica's dirt and gravel roads with ease. No stressing about rough roads —just hop in and go explore. Yaaay!

I honestly can't recommend them enough. If you're visiting Flamingo, staying for the season, have family or clients coming over, or you're lucky enough to call this area home, definitely check them out!

See you around town!😉

Some stories deserve more than a social media post✨

I've always loved writing, even poetry, and over the past few months I've found myself wanting to stay more connected with friends, clients, and readers like you —even from afar.

So I created 'A Letter from Erika' — a digital magazine about Costa Rica.

Not the tourist version.
Not the commercial one either.

Every edition is curated with local insights, practical guidance, hidden gems, real estate, relocation tips, and the little details that make life here so special—all through the genuine perspective of someone who lives it every day.

Edition 01 goes out July 15th, 2026

If you'd like to receive it (it's completely free), I'd love to welcome you to our community.

A Day in My Life at Mar Vista 🤍

Mar Vista, a gated community that truly feels like home🏡

Morning begins with a cup of tea|coffee and an ocean view, listening to the birds before the day begins, walking through the community to see what's blooming, what's fruiting, and which wildlife is out today🥰

A golf cart makes getting around effortless. Some days it's tennis (my favorite), other days it's the gym, a swim in the pool, or simply working with an ocean view.. and no matter how the day unfolds, I always look forward to golden hour—because the sunsets here never disappoint🌅

One of my favorite things about Mar Vista is its slower rhythm. It's peaceful, surrounded by nature, yet just minutes from some of Costa Rica's most beautiful beaches, restaurants, and the Flamingo Marina. On rainy days, I love watching distant thunderstorms dance along the horizon, and on clear nights, the stars put on a show of their own✨

This is the Costa Rica so many people dream about—not as a vacation, but as everyday life... and sometimes I'm lucky enough to live days like this🤍

Why I love Mar Vista:
🎾 Tennis & pickleball courts
💪 Fully equipped fitness center
🍽️ Gracia Restaurant with breathtaking ocean views
🏊 Infinity pool with panoramic Pacific Ocean views
🌅 Scenic viewpoints throughout the community
🌿 Lush tropical landscaping and abundant wildlife
🚗 Just 5 minutes from Playa Flamingo & Flamingo Marina
🛡️ 24/7 gated security
