🍷 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗪𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻…

Those of you who know me well know that my heart usually belongs to a big, bold South American Malbec!

But I confess that I have found a new favourite here in Cyprus - a bold, fruity red from the Vasilikon Winery… not too heavy but still with body, and very smooth.

🍇 Blend of Syrah, Lefkada and Cabernet Franc
🍷 Smooth, spicy, a little wild, and perfect with grilled halloumi or lamb

Cyprus has been making wine for over 5,000 years. Tiny mountain vineyards, ancient indigenous grapes, and passionate family wineries keeping traditions alive. Sadly, last year’s wildfires damaged several vineyards and livelihoods, which makes supporting these producers even more important.

So today, wherever you are, raise a glass to the winemakers who keep going through heatwaves, storms and fires, and to discovering something new and local when you travel.

And if you ever stay at To Kefi Ano… I might just have a bottle waiting for you. 😉

The last time I saw flamingos in any numbers was on safari in the Ngorongoro Crater, so it is such a privilege to have them on my doorstep at Paralimni Lake as they come here and Larnaca Salt Lake for the winter. Not great pics but wonderful to see

🌿 Having guests stay at To Kefi Ano these past three weeks has been the perfect excuse to explore more of Cyprus myself!

From the stunning Troodos Mountains with their cool pine forests and villages, to discovering new local restaurants, it’s been a joy seeing the island through fresh eyes again.

We even ventured across the border to Famagusta, explored the fascinating Roman ruins of Salamis (my first visit!), and walked through the eerie ghost town of Varosha, a sobering but unforgettable experience.

Every time I explore, I’m reminded just how much Cyprus has to offer beyond the beaches; history, culture, food and warmth at every turn. 🇨🇾✨

Fancy a break from the beach? Just 15 minutes away in the village of Avgorou, you’ll find CyHerbia Botanical Park – a whimsical world of lavender fields, herb gardens, and a hedge maze that’ll delight both adults and children alike.

Explore themed gardens filled with fragrant Mediterranean herbs and plants - the park is home to most of the Mediterranean plant species. It is divided into 10 themed organic herb gardens, such as the «Aroma Garden», the «Traditional Cypriot Garden», the «Healer’s Garden», etc

Wander through a mini forest of native trees, and challenge yourself (or the kids!) to escape the only hedge maze in Cyprus – it’s more of a workout than it looks!

While most visitors to Protaras are busy perfecting their tan near Fig Tree Bay, history is literally carved beneath their feet.

Thanks to some new signage, a remarkable piece of the Greek/Roman world is now just a staircase away. From mojito to mythology in under 3 minutes 😀

This is the kind of magic you find when you don’t stick to the all-inclusive. When you step beyond the buffet and explore the soul of a place. That’s where the real stories live and where I love to send my guests.

Just a short drive from 𝘛𝘰 𝘒𝘦𝘧𝘪 𝘈𝘯𝘰, Ayia Thekla Beach offers the perfect blend of sun, sea and Cypriot soul. Often overshadowed by its lively neighbour Nissi Beach, Ayia Thekla is a favourite with locals; a more peaceful spot with turquoise waters and golden sands, ideal for a relaxed swim or a romantic coastal stroll. And a great place for sundowners!

But this beach has more than just beauty. Perched above the shoreline is the beautiful blue and white chapel of Saint Thekla. It's a popular spot for weddings and photographs, and it’s not hard to see why with its sweeping sea views and serene setting. Thekla herself was a follower of Paul the Apostle, and the site was once home to a monastery for women until 1937.

What many visitors miss, though, is the tiny cave church tucked beneath the modern chapel. This hidden gem is thought to have been a place of worship since the 4th century, and stepping down into the cool, candlelit cave feels like walking back through time. Inside, you’ll find icons, flickering candles and whispered prayers to Saint Thekla, who locals believe can lend a helping hand in matters of the heart. ❤️ Frankly, she has been less than useless as far as I am concerned but maybe I am too impatient! 😂
