In Cyprus, foreigners who obtain Permanent Residence (PR) status ,can become beneficiaries and enjoy free health care services.
The Cyprus Universal Health Care System, also known as Gesy (GHS), or General Healthcare System, is a universal health care service for a wide audience, with a wide range of medical treatments and a high level of coverage, which allows beneficiaries to enjoy equal access to health care services for life, as well as the freedom to choose private or public medical services.
Beneficiaries are required to enroll in the GHS system and register with a personal physician of their choice.
Beneficiaries can access the GHS system by registering online or by visiting a private physician on site.
The personal physician will be the first point of contact for GHS beneficiaries and will also be responsible for providing all necessary health care services as well as guidance and referrals to specialists if needed by the beneficiary.
Beneficiaries will pay a small amount when receiving services or when buying medicines.
For example, €1 per medicine, €1 per test and €6 per visit to a specialist. Visits to private physicians and inpatient care are free of charge.
The personal contribution is capped at 150 Euros per person per year, and 75 Euros per year for low income people, low income retirees, and adolescents under 21 years of age. The number of free visits to a private doctor per year varies according to age.
Gesy (GHS) covers all health care needs of beneficiaries, including chronic, rare and serious diseases.
One person applies, three generations immigrate, and after the permanent residence principal applicant receives his or her pr card, the whole family can register their own private doctor and become beneficiaries of Gesy!
