Ο μεγάλος νικητής του FIDE Candidates Tournament 2016, που πραγματοποιήθηκε από τις 18 Μαρτίου ως τις 16 Απριλίου στο Cap St Georges Hotel & Resort, Javokhir Sindarov από το Ουζμπεκιστάν, κατακτώντας την πολυπόθητη νίκη έσπασε και όλα τα ρεκόρ. Ο Javokhir Sindarov ολοκλήρωσε το τουρνουά με 10 βαθμούς σε 14 παρτίδες, καταγράφοντας τη μεγαλύτερη συγκομιδή βαθμών και τις περισσότερες νίκες, έξι συνολικά που έχει σημειωθεί ποτέ σε αντίστοιχη διοργάνωση FIDE Candidates event οκτώ παικτών.
