We set this designer chair on fire. Five times.
Not because we wanted to, but because guest safety is one of the many requirements that shape luxury hotel projects long before the first guest checks in.
For our ongoing project in Rome, numerous upholstered furniture pieces had to undergo a series of fire safety tests before being approved for use in the hotel. With upholstered furniture, it is not just the fabric that matters—it is the performance of the entire material assembly.
What does this mean for us as project and procurement managers?
Requirements like these must be considered from the earliest stages of a project. Only by aligning regulatory compliance, design intent, material selection, budget and lead times from the outset can costly redesigns and delays be avoided later on.
These are the details that guests will probably never notice—but they play a vital role in creating a safe and successful hotel.
