It's Halloween at the Wilhelma on Saturday, Oct 31! Witches, vampires, and ghosts will take over Stuttgart's zoo and botanical garden from 10 am to 7:30 pm. There will be a light show in the Wintergarten, a spider cave, a witch-broom course, photo spots with Count Dracula and the ghost pirates, and a craft table where kids can make a little witch's house (€2 for materials). Kids aged 12 and up can brave Zombieland. At 7:15 pm, all the ghosts will gather for a closing photo and then parade to the exit.

All kids in costume get in free; everyone else needs a regular day ticket (and there will be no evening rate). Last entry will be at 5 pm, and the upper part of the park will close from 5 pm. The Pragstraße entrance will remain open.

The French Film Days start today! 🎬 From Oct 28 to Nov 4, the Französische Filmtage show French-language films from France, Africa and beyond at the atelier am bollwerk in Stuttgart and in cinemas in Tübingen, Reutlingen and Rottenburg. Films are shown in the original language with German or English subtitles. Tip: "OmeU" in the program means English subtitles. Tickets are available online both through the festival site and the individual movie theaters.

About 44 million liters of mineral water bubble up in Stuttgart every day, around 500 liters a second. That's more than any other city in Germany. Most of the springs are in Bad Cannstatt and Berg, and they feed three mineral baths: Leuze, Mineralbad Berg and SoleBad Cannstatt. Perfect for a gray autumn day!

Autumn is the best time to walk Stuttgart's vineyards. The leaves turn red and gold, the vines are heavy with grapes, and you might even see the harvest. Most vineyards are easy to reach from the city center by public transportation, and the city has marked w**e trails (Weinwanderwege) to guide you.

Plus, you can look for a broom hanging on a door: that's a Besenwirtschaft, a "broom tavern", where local w**emakers open their homes for a few weeks a year to serve their own w**e and Swabian food.

Clocks go back this Sunday, Oct 25: at 3 am, it's 2 am again, and Germany is back on standard time. Heads-up for Americans: the US only switches a week later, on Sunday, Nov 1. So for one week, the time difference to the US is an hour less. Double-check your calls and meetings with folks back home that week!

Heads-up for the next two weekends 🚋 There will be no U-Bahn service between downtown and Degerloch (Bopser–Weinsteige) all day Saturday and Sunday, Oct 24–25 and again Oct 31–Nov 1, because of switch work.

U5, U6, U7, and U12 will be shortened or rerouted, and the U8 won't run at all from Oct 24 to Nov 1. Replacement bus U6E will run Bopser – Weinsteige – Degerloch – Degerloch Albstraße. You won't be able to buy tickets on the bus, so get yours before boarding, whether from a station machine or in the VVS app.

Heading to the airport? S2 and S3 will run as usual from the Hauptbahnhof, and the rack railway (line 10) will still connect Degerloch and Marienplatz.

Halloween pumpkin carving in Ludwigsburg 🎃
On Sat Oct 24, Sun Oct 25, and Halloween (Sat Oct 31), anyone visiting the pumpkin festival in Ludwigsburg will be able to carve their own pumpkin. You can purchase a pumpkin there, tools and tables will be set up, and carving pros will offer tips and help.

Want a prize? Enter your pumpkin at the carving tent by 4 pm. The jury will pick the three best in each age group (3–6, 7–10, 11–15, and 16–99), with awards around 4 pm.

Entry with the regular Blühendes Barock day ticket. Public transit: S4 or S5 to Ludwigsburg.
