Exercise and diet in Santo Domingo
Recently I’ve been thinking that it’s like I won the lottery being a Danish citizen and a dual resident of Denmark and the DR. Being able to spend a prolonged time in both countries is a privilege. Both have a friendly atmosphere and great culture, although very different.
Healthy food and good healthcare are key. Especially in Denmark, but in the capital, Santo Domingo, healthcare has improved a lot in recent years. I keep a local insurance with Humano Seguros alongside my Danish travel insurance.
In early January, I experienced more anxiety than usual in Las Terrenas. I decided to quit coffee, caffeine and sugar. Now, over two months into this routine, I feel it has helped me. I’ve seen a noticeable difference; it has diminished the anxiety and gradually improved my sleep. I drink tea without caffeine and eat fruits if I feel like something sweet.
During these last months, I ended up spending more time in Santo Domingo. I especially love the large gym and the exercise pool I go to. Being as healthy as I can has become my main priority; I can’t be productive or creative without the resilience that comes from exercise.
Today I went to the gym with Raysa. I’ve been acting as her “personal trainer”, encouraging her to exercise more, while she has been my “nutritionist” during my time in Santo Domingo. Her strong health consciousness with food is a great support.
Our company, Boyter Island SRL, is now a real estate office for her and an outsourcing studio for me. Please follow the page Boyter Island SRL, my Instagram (.boyter) and LinkedIn for updates about the company and my life in Denmark and the DR.
I follow a similar workout program at both the Body Shop Gym in Santo Domingo and PureGym in Aarhus, but the atmospheres are dramatically different.
In Santo Domingo at the gym, the environment is noisy and very social, which I find pleasant. In contrast, at PureGym in Aarhus, members are more focused, quiet and listen to their own music.
However, in Aarhus, the hand weights are always in perfect order, whereas in Santo Domingo they are sometimes all over the place, and you can’t always find the weight you need!
