☀️ Do solar panels always make financial sense in Estonia?
Estonia has an open energy market, with multiple energy companies competing on prices and volumes. That might make solar power seem like an obvious investment for homeowners.
But there’s an interesting catch.
When solar panels are producing the most electricity, electricity prices can also be relatively low because Estonia already has significant solar generation capacity.
So simply producing electricity and selling the surplus back to the grid may not always be the best strategy — and in some situations, the return can be surprisingly low.
🔋 The key may be energy storage.
Using solar energy yourself, particularly when electricity prices are higher, can make much more financial sense than simply selling it back to the grid.
This is an interesting consideration for anyone buying or building a home in Estonia — especially when calculating the real return on energy-efficient upgrades.
🎥 In this short video, we discuss how solar panels, batteries and Estonia's electricity market work together.
Would you install solar panels without a battery?
