Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly met with Chairman of the Chinese Henan Zhongfu Industrial Co Ltd Chi Hongsong, to review plans for establishing a major aluminum plant in the East Port Said within the Suez Canal Economic Zone. The project’s investments are estimated at $2 billion.
The project is expected to generate significant economic returns through sales and exports, while creating around 3,000 direct jobs. This aligns with the government’s efforts to boost employment, particularly for residents of Sinai and the Suez Canal cities.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Hussein Eissa and Walid Gamal El-Din, Chairman of the General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone.
At the outset, Madbouly reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing full support for the project, highlighting the strategic importance of the industrial sector in Egypt’s current economic agenda.
During the meeting, Hussein Eissa emphasized the project’s importance, noting that aluminum products serve as key inputs for a wide range of industries. He also highlighted potential cooperation between the Chinese company and Egypt Aluminum Company, suggesting that a meeting could be arranged soon to explore partnership opportunities.
For his part, Walid Gamal El-Din stated that the project would be the first of its kind in East Port Said, spanning up to one million square meters within the industrial zone. He noted that it would strengthen the zone’s position as a global industrial and logistics hub, particularly in heavy and strategic industries.
He added that the project represents a qualitative leap in localizing high-value aluminum industries in Egypt, helping meet domestic demand and bridge gaps in manufacturing. It is also expected to enhance Egypt’s competitiveness in regional and global markets, particularly in Africa, the Middle East, and Europe, while supporting global supply chains and boosting exports.
Chi Hongsong expressed appreciation for cooperation with the Egyptian government, praising Egypt’s attractive investment climate and incentives for foreign investors. He noted the strong and longstanding relations between Egypt and China.
The chairman outlined that the project will involve the construction of an advanced aluminum manufacturing complex covering more than one million square meters. The facility will utilize the latest global technologies and is expected to create 3,000 jobs.
He added that the company exports to more than 130 clients across 45 countries and regions. Its products include aluminum foil for beverage packaging, battery components, and aluminum sheets used in automotive, aviation, and rail industries.
Hongsong described the project as a strategic step to expand the company’s global industrial presence, particularly in Egypt, reflecting strong confidence in the local market and in the Suez Canal Economic Zone as a key investment destination.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Prime Minister reiterated the government’s full support for the project, describing it as a pioneering and ambitious investment that will contribute to Egypt’s industrial development.
