Sometimes the biggest healing comes through the smallest things. 🤍
This summer I spent two separate weeks with my big brother and his wife, and I found myself noticing all the little ways they quietly brought more care, laughter,love and lightness into my life.
With my brother, it was the practical things.
Filling my water bottle for the fridge. Refilling the water filter. Making breakfast. Seeing something that needed doing and just getting on with it.
Then there were the bigger things 🥰 revamping a car for my stepson, painting gates, and getting absolutely soaked helping pull ceilings down after a storm sent water pouring through the house. 😂
And then there’s his wife 🥰
What an unexpected bonus she has been.
The bond and love I feel for her is genuinely beautiful. She is caring, compassionate, ridiculously funny and has the kind of humour that can have me crying with laughter.
Although I am still working on getting her to look on the bright side of life first rather than preparing for every possible disaster 😂
There was something about these weeks that really touched me.
When you’re used to being the one who organises, fixes, helps and looks after everyone else, it can feel surprisingly emotional to simply be cared for.
And it reminded me that love doesn’t always arrive in big declarations.
Sometimes it’s a filled water bottle.
Sometimes it’s breakfast being made.
Sometimes it’s someone standing beside you in the middle of absolute chaos.
And sometimes it’s laughing so hard with someone that your whole body hurts.
I could focus on all the time we haven’t spent together.
But I’d much rather be grateful for what we have now.
For loving big brothers.
For sisters-in-law who somehow become sisters.
For second chapters.
For laughter, care, connection and the beautiful way relationships can deepen when the timing is right.
Sometimes life gives us things later than we expected.
That doesn’t make them any less precious.
Maybe it makes us appreciate them even more. 🤍
Although I miss them terribly this morning I’m so grateful for the time we had🥰
