What do I love about Madrid? It never does things halfway.

Lunch becomes dinner, one drink becomes three and a quick walk somehow ends on the other side of the city. I love its grand façades, noisy terraces, serious museums and complete lack of interest in an early night.

If Amsterdam had a neighbourhood designed for getting distracted, it would be Jordaan.

Start with breakfast at The Breakfast Club Amsterdam — or, if coffee is the only breakfast you recognise, try Nous or Toki.

On Mondays and Saturdays, let Noordermarkt delay you with vintage finds, books and local produce. Then continue with natural w**es at a asopw**es , colourful Dutch design at Polspotten and a small lesson in the city’s favourite flower at the Amsterdam Tulip Museum .

Still room in your bag? LikeStationery, ENSŌ Vintage and Misc Store are ready to test that theory.

And when walking turns into w**e, Café Parlotte is a very good place to end the day.

Jordaan: come for a walk, leave with three bags and dinner plans.

At , you’ll find tulips, bulbs and plenty of colour lined up along the Singel canal. Yes, it’s popular. And yes, it’s still worth a look.
