I just spoke to someone who made a £6,800 mistake.
Sarah's TIE card expired on January 15th, 2026.
She thought: "I'll apply for renewal in February, what's the rush?"
Here's what actually happened:
❌ February 20: Tried to book a visa renewal appointment
❌ Reality: Earliest appointment available was March 25
❌ Problem: Her visa expired 69 days ago
❌ Consequence: "Illegal stay" status triggered
❌ Result at airport: €3,500 fine + 18-month entry ban + deportation

The rule everyone learns the hard way:
📅 Apply for visa renewal 60-90 days BEFORE expiration
📅 Not 60 days AFTER
Spanish immigration doesn't do warnings. They do fines and bans.

✅ Book immigration appointment THIS WEEK
✅ Gather documents NOW (takes 2-3 weeks minimum)
✅ Submit renewal application by the end of March
"But I thought I had time..."
No. You don't. Appointment slots in Madrid, Barcelona, and Valencia fill up 3-4 weeks in advance.
If your visa expires on April 30th, and you try to book an appointment on April 15th?
Too late. You'll get an appointment for June. Your visa expires May 1st. You're illegal for 30 days = Fine + possible ban.
This isn't scare tactics. This is reality.
