🏫 Now THIS was a flooring job…

This was a major flooring refurbishment in a Victorian school built around 1875. Involving lifting the existing flooring, extensive preparation and installing new, hard-wearing flooring throughout large areas of the building.

And then we discovered what was underneath… 😭

Original Victorian parquet flooring.
We’re not going to lie, that one hurt. It was absolutely heartbreaking taking it out. Floors like that have survived generations of schoolchildren and there’s something very special about seeing the original craftsmanship still sitting underneath.
Sadly, in a busy working school, practicality, safety and suitability have to come first – but we definitely mourned that parquet as it came up.

This was a big project, with a huge amount of preparation and flooring to get through, all completed within the timescales required so the school could be ready for pupils returning.

Jobs like this are a great reminder of the scale of commercial work we’ve tackled over the years – not just the finished floor you see at the end, but everything that goes into getting there. 💪

Another throwback to one of our UK jobs 🇬🇧

New school toilets — completed during the summer holidays, with just the two of us plodding along getting it all done. 🔨🚽

And this really was start to finish ✔️

Old toilets stripped out, floors sorted, new plumbing, wall panelling, sanitaryware, cubicles, flooring, decorating… the lot. Ready for the kids coming back in September. 👌

The funny thing is, while we were doing all this, we were also in the middle of our visa application and planning our move to Spain. 🇪🇸

Fast forward and we've now been here for nearly a year and a half, Bespoke Costa Maintenance is going from strength to strength, and we're still doing what we've always done — just with considerably better weather. 😂☀️

Quite nice looking back and remembering where this crazy little adventure started. ❤️

A throwback to a large project we did before we left the UK.

This hallway and staircase had a complete refresh and new lighting — and what a difference 🙌

The existing floor was replaced with these gorgeous patterned tiles, individually laid to create the bordered design and new thresholds bespoke made by Gary. Add in the freshly decorated walls, crisp white panelling and woodwork, and the whole entrance was completely transformed.

That floor though… 😍

There was a lot of setting out involved before the first tile went down — such a complicated pattern 😂 — but the finished result was absolutely worth it.

One of those jobs we still love looking back at.

Do it once. Do it right. 👌

Poor neighbour downstairs! 😱💦

Water was leaking through their bathroom ceiling… and with holidaymakers staying in the apartment above, this one needed sorting quickly! 😳

We were called in by Indigo Ninos to investigate and get it sorted.
The problem was traced back to the shower waste. Both seals had failed, meaning water was escaping over the top of the waste trap every time the shower was used. 🚿💧

🔧 New seals fitted
🔧 New strainer fitted
🔧 Fresh mastic applied and everything properly sealed

Problem found. Problem fixed. And hopefully one very relieved neighbour downstairs! 😂

Toilet constantly running? 🚽💦

This is the culprit 👀

Once we got the flush mechanism out, it was pretty clear it had seen better days! Years of limescale, wear and our lovely Costa del Sol hard water doing its thing 😬

Old mechanism out, replacement fitted, tested and the toilet is back to doing what a toilet should do — flush, refill and STOP. 😂

💡 Little maintenance tips:-

Every so often, add some white cleaning vinegar to the cistern and leave it to work for a while before flushing. It can help break down the limescale that builds up around the mechanism and seals.

When it does come time to replace the mechanism, don’t automatically go for the cheapest option. This one was replaced with a Roca mechanism. With something that gets used every single day, we'd rather fit a decent-quality part and do the job once than save a few euros on the part and be back replacing it again. 🔧

Buy cheap, buy twice! 😉

A constantly running toilet might seem like a minor annoyance, but left long enough it can waste a surprising amount of water. 💧
