A successful first mop. Room zoned and anything it could bump into, isolated - and no incidents. Hoovered first and then very pleasingly wet mopped. Results were excellent. Our robot has passed the test!

Summer is very gently stepping back and autumn is approaching. As it does, it brings a different kind of magic. Instead of intense blue sky, from early morning until late evening, wispy clouds now float overhead - and as the sun sets, they help to produce the most amazing colour palette above the house. Pinks and blues and greys. Just gorgeous.

And then we turn the lights on, and the house transforms from a big, bright open plan space. It becomes more cosy, with lovely shadows and darkening corners.

What a gorgeous time of year…🍂

From the roof terrace this morning. Stunning!

For weeks and weeks and weeks, every morning has been clear, with bright sunshine and maybe a wispy, cotton-wool cloud or two.

This morning felt like summer was really starting to retreat and autumn moving in. The clouds and colours were amazing. And the birds! What a treat…

Well, if this works as well and efficiently as the ordering/delivery process (ordered Tuesday, arrived today), then we may be finally free of Internet glitches. This is supposed to work very well in our area of Andalucia, so it’s going to be our back up system, whenever our fibre internet goes down. Which we’re finding, it has a tendency to do.

We really thought long and hard about this, because of the association with that awful Musk, but we felt we needed more security regarding internet. We were concerned about downtime, especially concerning our design work and so we had to put aside our dislike of the man and his ways.

Hoping we’ve resolved it all…

Brown changed everything.

Our chaise longue. Second-hand, slightly overlooked, but too good to pass by. But, very brash - swirly gold flourishes over a faded turquoise.

A coat of chocolate-brown fabric paint later and suddenly it belonged.

No new furniture required. Just a new way of looking at the old 🤎

We kept them.

Chipped. Faded. A little imperfect.

Rescued during the renovation and now simply leaning on the roof terrace wall. We might do something with them one day.

Or perhaps we already have. 🤎

On the upside yesterday, what were we to do, without internet, apart from relax into the day? Did a bit a plant moving in the morning, and planned a bit of a glass wall project for the autumn.

Then behaved like we were on holiday. Vino in the gorgeous late summer sunshine, whilst swinging on egg chairs and lounging on sunbeds. What a nice way to spend a Monday…

I bought three of these little star shaped tea light holders in David Gavin Design, in West Didsbury, when we renovated our house in Arley Avenue. They were never properly used because we didn’t have anywhere in the garden, to hang them. The Istria house had many trees, from which we could hang them - too many to be honest, as they just got lost amongst the greenery.

They’ve now found their home, up on the roof terrace. And they don’t half look very, very pretty, especially at night, when the tea lights flicker.

Bought in 2014 on Burton Road. Finally used in 2026 on Calle Sevilla.

So, when our internet is good, it’s really good. It means we can run our business. Keep connected with everyone. Know what’s happening in the world. Buy things online. Book hotels and plan trips. Pay bills. Find things out. Generally, exist.

But when it’s not good, it’s really not good. We’re with a company called Movistar. Generally, no problems. *Generally*. But they do suffer huge outages - and we’ve just had a two day outage. No wifi, no 4/5G, no TV, no work, no receiving/sending emails no nothing. It’s completely frustrating trying to just live a normal life, but add into the mix working from home, and it becomes a nightmare because it’s out of our control.

So, we’ve grasped the nettle and have ordered Starlink. I know - Musk! We’ve resisted it so far, but we can’t have instability with no back up. The back up is now on its way. So hopefully, when Movistar plays up, we can put Starlink into action. And keep on working…

Above it all.

There are views you seek out on holiday. Views you stop the car for. Views you photograph because you’re not quite sure when you’ll see them again.

And then, somehow, there are views that become home.

The plants need watering. The sunloungers get moved around. Something inevitably needs sweeping. And beyond the railings, the Andalusian hills just carry on doing their thing.

I love that this extraordinary view now sits alongside all the very ordinary business of living, but I hope I never become so accustomed to it, that I forget to look.

Perhaps that’s when somewhere really does become home. 🤎
