Spain’s Golden Visa closed in April 2025. Our phone had a busy week after the headlines.
Here is the honest answer for Norwegian buyers: it is not your story.
The Golden Visa was designed for buyers who had no other route into Europe — primarily from outside the EU and EEA. Norway has been EEA since 1994. You have always been able to buy and live in Spain without a visa. Nothing about that changed.
What does matter for Norwegians thinking about extended time in Spain:
183 days. That is Spain’s tax residency trigger. Cross it and Spain claims tax rights over your worldwide income. For someone spending a summer month here, irrelevant. For someone genuinely considering relocating, the most important number to understand before you sign anything.
The Beckham Law is also worth knowing. It lets qualifying individuals who relocate to Spain pay a flat 24% on Spanish income for up to six years, instead of the standard rate that goes to 47%. There is a hard application window — six months from establishing residency. Miss it and it is gone.
