Living in a Flowerpot
Who hasn’t dreamt of buying a house and putting down roots? Or literally living beneath a tree? Both are possible (and rather appealing) at House for Trees, a project by Vo Trong Nghia that grows like a world apart amid the urban sprawl of Ho Chi Minh City. Seen from above, it looks as though someone has left five flowerpots forgotten on an endless mosaic. The pots are, in fact, habitable cubes linked by a garden. The mosaic is the urban fabric of terraced houses, crammed together as if the buildings themselves — and their inhabitants — had to hold their breath to stop the city from bursting at the seams. Pressure is not just a physical force measured in pascals. It is also an emotional force, one that can be eased with light and greenery.
