Marbella’s old town is small, white and full of bougainvillea, and it does not shut in the autumn.

The terraces on the squares are busy on a Tuesday in November, and from the start of December the streets are lit for Christmas.

It is a very good place to spend an evening.

Nobody comes to Marbella in November for the heat. They come for the light.

Average daytime temperature in November is 17°C, with about five hours of sun and ten hours of daylight. Oslo the same month: 3°C, two hours of sun, eight hours of daylight. London: 10°C and two hours of sun. It rains here too, about twelve days in the month, but it rains at 17 degrees and it clears.

Casa Olinda is on the beach in lower El Rosario, east of Marbella. Three bedrooms, a fireplace for the evenings, wifi, a kitchen table with a view of the garden, and a gate that opens onto an empty beach.

The best hour at Villa Amorosa is not the middle of the day.

It is around half nine, when the terrace has cooled off, the garden lights come on and the pool is quietly the warmest thing outside.

We heat it, so this holds up well into October.

A pool and a heated pool are two different holidays in October.

The sea off Luz sits at about 20°C in October - the west-facing Algarve runs a degree or two cooler than the eastern end, which catches people out. The air is about 22°C and the sun is out roughly seven hours a day, which is lovely for walking, for eating outside, for sitting in the garden with a book.

An unheated pool tracks the sea fairly closely. It picks up a little warmth during the day and loses most of it overnight, and by mid-October the sun sits too low to make up the difference. That is why so many autumn pool photos have nobody in them.

Villa Amorosa’s pool is heated to 28°C. No weekly supplement, no switching it on for an extra fee - it is simply on. That is the whole difference between a nice view and a morning swim.

The house is free from mid September to mid October.

Summer doesn’t have to end on September 1st. ☀️

Casa Olinda is available from August 30th to mid-September – arguably the best time of year in Marbella. The peak heat has eased, the days are pleasantly warm, and the evenings are just right for lingering outside.

A whitewashed villa with a private pool, a lush garden and bright, airy rooms – plus your own path through the dunes down to the beach. The sea is quite literally outside your door.

“Even more stunning than the photos.” That’s how one guest put it, and it’s the part a reel can’t quite show you.

Villa Amorosa, set on the hillside above Praia da Luz.

Hidden tunnels. Golden cliffs. And the Atlantic waiting on the other side.

Praia dos Estudantes is one of those places that stops you in your tracks – ancient rock arches, carved tunnels leading straight onto the beach, and that unmistakable Algarve light that makes everything glow golden.

It’s one of the most iconic spots along the Lagos coastline, and well worth the short drive from Praia da Luz.

Come back to Villa Amorosa in time for a swim in the heated pool and dinner as the sun goes down.
