After years of administrative stops and starts, the proposed expansion of La Bajadilla has taken a meaningful step forward with the awarding of a 40 year concession by the Junta de Andalucía.
The project, with planned investment above €200 million, sets out an 11 month period to draft the works and 36 months to carry them out. Reported plans include tripling the port’s water surface, increasing berths from about 268 to around 750, modernising the fishing area, adding leisure uses, substantial breakwater works and parking for roughly 1,000 vehicles.
For Marbella, this is more than a marina update. It is a reminder that coastal infrastructure can influence how a city grows, functions and presents itself over decades.
