The Spanish Siesta : 2 - 4 pm

The well-known nap of two to three hours in the heat of the afternoon sun is a long and popular tradition practiced across Southern Europe and the Mediterranean; a chance for farm workers to sleep off their heavy lunch and avoid working in the hottest hours of the day. In modern Spain, though, the nap has largely been abandoned. In a poll from 2009, almost 60 percent confirmed they never take a siesta, versus 16 percent that did daily. Spaniards shouldn’t be so quick to toss the tradition — having a nap after lunch has recently been associated with a 37 percent decrease in coronary mortality.

As our week of culture comes to a close we plan on taking a weekend Siesta. Enjoy the Spanish Beaches and Sunshine.

Semana Santa

The Holy Week, which takes place during Easter, is an entire week filled with processions and other religious celebrations. Even if you are not a religious person in any way, it's an event that you should visit at least once, the most impressive festivities are always expected during the Semana Santa in Seville and the Holy Week in Malaga.

The brotherhoods of the most important churches spend months practicing their processions, resulting in a solemn and awe-inspiring experience. Dozens of men and women march through the streets, carrying the statue of their church's patron saint, flanked by hundreds of candles. This event, though it may sound strange, is one of the top events for everyone in Spain: entire families bring chairs and snacks, and they settle on the sidewalk to witness the impressive processions.

What is the La Tomatina Festival in Spain?

It takes place in Buñol, a little village near Valencia, Spain. The Festival begins at 11am with a bang. Trucks loaded of tomatoes proceed to drive through the fight area while some locals in the back of the trucks are throwing tomatoes at all of the festival goers. As soon as the truck passes, everyone dives on the ground scooping for tomatoes to get themselves armed for the battle…that’s when the fun begins! The following hour will be one of the most intense and hilarious experiences of your life.

Running of the Bulls in Pampolona, Spain July 6 - 14, 2019

The bull run itself is a contentious item on many people’s bucket list. The bulls are big, their horns are sharp and the streets are narrow. In a panic to avoid the bulls, your fellow runners will elbow you and run over the top of you. Chances are you’ll emerge from the bull run with a bruise or scratch, and there’s always the chance that something can really go wrong…which is what makes it so exhilarating! So much fun! A once in a lifetime experience, and something that you should try at least once. But the bull run isn’t for everybody. It’s just five controversial minutes of each festival day. For the other 23 hours and 55 minutes, when the bulls aren’t running the city is raging, and the Pamplona party is for absolutely everybody.

Running of the Bulls 2019, everything you need to enjoy this amazing party. Balcony Rentals, Opening Ceremony, Chupinazo, Guided Tours, Bullfight tickets and whatever is neccesary for you to have an unforgettable experience in Spain. Have fun in San Fermin party, concretely in Pamplona city.

Casa Mona is back this week with some cultural insights from Costa del Sol....

Flamenco (Spanish pronunciation: [flaˈmeŋko]), in its strictest sense, is a professionalized art-form based on the various folkloric music traditions of southern Spain in the autonomous community of Andalusia.

Here is simple taste of the dance although a visit to the market to buy castanets and flamenco dresses and hair pieces is soooooo much fun💃
