Spain did not close the door.
It simply changed the key.

The end of the Spanish Golden Visa has created a lot of noise, especially among non-EU buyers who dream of living in Marbella or the Costa del Sol.

Yes, Spain ended the residence route linked to real estate investment in April 2025. But this does not mean your plan to buy a home and live in Spain is over. 

For many international buyers, the Non-Lucrative Visa or the Digital Nomad Visa may still be relevant options, depending on their personal situation. Spain’s official consular information continues to list both residence routes, each with its own requirements and process. 

The real risk is not the change in the law.
The real risk is making life-changing decisions based on headlines instead of proper guidance.
