🏰 Medieval Festival 2026 in Villena: History and Cultural Life in Alicante Province

Villena is one of the most historically significant towns in inland Alicante Province, shaped over centuries by its strategic position between Castile and the Kingdom of Valencia.

From 6th to 8th March, the town hosts the 2026 edition of its Medieval Festival — a well-established cultural event that transforms the historic quarter each year.

Most activities take place in the Rabal district, beneath the imposing Castillo de la Atalaya 🏰.

Over three days, the programme combines historical insight, community participation and entertainment for all ages.

Highlights include:

🔨 Traditional craft workshops such as blacksmithing, carpentry, pottery, natural dyeing and lace-making.

🎭 Children’s activities including storytelling, theatre, painting and role-play.

🦅 Falconry displays and medieval equestrian demonstrations.

📚 Talks and lectures on history, weaponry and historical figures such as Maimonides and Averroes.

🎶 Medieval music and dance inspired by Arabic, Celtic and Balkan traditions.

🏹 Viking and Christian camps, archery and soft-combat demonstrations.

🍖 A themed food area with taverns and medieval-style eateries.

Visitors can also explore historic landmarks including the Church of Santiago, the Santa María bell tower, the Castle itself and local museums, with symbolic or free entry depending on the activity.

One of the most distinctive moments of the festival is the so-called “Lettuce Battle” 🥬 — a lively and participatory tradition that has become one of the event’s most recognisable features.

Villena illustrates how heritage and cultural activity continue to play an active role in shaping the identity of the territory.

If you don’t have anything planned for the second weekend of March in Alicante, here’s a great idea.

From March 6 to 8, Plaza Séneca will host a new edition of the Alacant Street Food Market, one of the most popular travelling food festivals in the province.

Don’t you think the best plans are often the simplest ones?

Walking between food trucks, tasting new flavours and enjoying the atmosphere.

For three days, the square will be filled with vintage-style food trucks, live music and a vibrant open-air atmosphere.

The smell of freshly cooked food, the music and the lively crowd will turn the square into one of those places where you simply want to stay a little longer.

Smash burgers, gourmet hot dogs, Thai cuisine, Colombian arepas, Mexican nachos, Argentine-style pizza, crepes and waffles… flavours from all over the world.

And to complete the experience, more than 40 design, fashion and craft stalls will be part of the market.
