Louise Craig is the co-founder of Craig & Co. Having worked in Fashion in London,.New York, Paris, Sydney, Milan, and being of Danish origin, she has always had a strong eye for design. A serial entrepreneur owning high end mens´ retail shops in Cop

Blog 16 - Toilet Tantrums...

The thing about teams of workmen is its always the other guys fault. One would think the simple installation of new toilets would be a walk in the park?

The plumber would say the general contractor bought the wrong toilets because it doesnt align with the waste water pipes and general plumbing; the contractor will say its an easy fix to align them; and all said and done, you just want a "dunny".

That´s why you need a cool head on shoulders, in comes the project manager (Louise) and aligns the whole team around one common goal - giving the client what they want. It can be like being a schoolteacher, or like herding cats, but someone has to take the stand and get the team to "stop acting like kids" and make it happen.

This was the case recently at one of Craig and Co´s projects in Estepona. Finally, we´re getting somewhere so the clients gets to sit on their throne(s) in peace.

Blog 15 - Refurbishment = Conservation

There is a school of thought that more foreign interest ruins places. Perhaps true, but what it also does is conserve places.

Torreguadiaro is a seaside town with many restaurants and a laid back family vibe. It is known for its beach and it has been loved by families to holiday for generations. More foreigners have seen it.

The central hub is built. That happened from the 70s. There are no more plots. Only straddling the 2 sides.

If you want the central hub, your choice to meet your living standards is to refurbish.

Those that come and refurbish conserve the core of the town. They make sure buildings survive the next 30 years. They conserve the threat of livelihoods by bringing funds into the local economy, and they preserve the spirit of the town by integrating with the locals and maintaining the strong sense of community.

The philosophy of the refurbisher is “to improve” at their own expense. The secondary effect is it improves the surrounding area.

For me it’s black and white: improvement, good; leave to deteriorate, bad.

Blog 14 - Ugly Delicious & Chaos Cracked

We didn’t coin that phrase originally. It was celebrity chef He speaks of how the best tasting food is sometimes the most difficult to plate beautifully. We’re talking Korean Kimchee Hotpots, Singapore Laksa, Beef Rendang, Chilli Crab…a Coney Island hot dog.

We just happen to be the first to coin that expression for properties. And there is no greater expression of that than our home town and HQ, Torreguadiaro.

The “gastronomic route” of the area, adjacent to Sotogrande, ugly at first glance, but poised to be the Big Kahuna. (2 premium hotels coming to town in an area locked against the sea, with baked in scarcity)

The issue in Torreguadiaro is all the properties are old. Yes the new build hotel and properties will come (infrastructure work as we speak) but the resale market has properties dating back to the 70s. Long before first occupancy licenses were a thing, and respecting 3m from neighbours and 5m from public roads.

So if you are buying here, you need to know 3 things. 1) Certain documents may be missed 2) You will have to refurbish or pay a hefty premium for already done, and 3) You will see a big jump in property prices so act now.

As my husband Stewart keeps doing what he’s doing in Real Estate as Torreguadiaro’s most active realtor, I (Louise) saw a gap…

The need for cost effective professional services related to refurbishment, project management, and design to elevate your home. Experience from doing it, not saying it.

There will be no easy ride. But we have been there done that, got the T-shirt.
