𝐃𝐈𝐆𝐈𝐓𝐀𝐋 𝐍𝐎𝐌𝐀𝐃 𝐑𝐄𝐍𝐄𝐖𝐀𝐋 - 𝐎𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬

There over 10 different options when it comes to renewing depending on how you applied and how you will renew. This can often cause confusion on what the exact requirements are.
Helping to identify how will you renew will clarify the documents you will need and how to renew.

A.2) DN Employee > DN Employee + new A1 or CoC
A.3) DN Employee > DN Employee + company registers with Spanish SS.
A.4) DN Business Owner > DN Business Owner (must meet new requirements).

NOTE: There are fewer documents to upload because the UGE will check the initial application (must meet updated requirements), the Spanish Social Security system for payments (including the A1 and CoC coverage) and the EES passport system. However, to avoid issues you will need to verify the information the UGE will see to ensure there are no problems.

𝐃𝐈𝐆𝐈𝐓𝐀𝐋 𝐍𝐎𝐌𝐀𝐃 – 𝐔𝐩𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐉𝐮𝐥𝐲 𝟐𝟔, 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬 & 𝐑𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐰𝐚𝐥𝐬

The Director of the Digital Nomad office (UGE) gave a conference on Friday, 24 July in Madrid on the current changes, new requirements, technical issues, the increase in denials, and fraud. The first part of the conference explained the updates, and the second half consisted of questions and answers from the 50 or so people attending.

UPDATES
The Digital Nomad (DN) programme continues to be popular, with ever more people applying, the largest group being from Russia, followed by the USA. Due to the high numbers, the UGE is overwhelmed with applications and is trying to improve its system to manage applications, requests, appeals, silent approvals, requirements, etc. They are focusing on the main issues that affect most people and do not have time to spend on special cases, requests, emails, etc.

Overall System
They are working on updating software, improving connectivity with the Police for TIEs, Social Security, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the EES system. These changes require several steps, agreements with other government bodies, and can take time to put in place. Some examples mentioned include: more detailed resolutions, TIE appointments assigned automatically, and from October, AI reading passports.

Technical Issues
This is more behind the scenes and useful for lawyers and professionals who process applications. Improvements include a better upload interface, the phasing out of full passport scans, address issues, blank sections of forms, parent name conflicts with TIEs, etc. Soon there will be new application forms to make them easier to process, as well as a one-page form for all family members.

Fraud
This has become a major issue, with fake documents. The National Police have also confirmed this is happening broadly in all immigration applications, with estimates of hundreds of thousands of documents being falsified.

This has two consequences:
The UGE has become very strict on documentation and insists on documents being government-issued and apostilled or, for bank documents, signed or stamped to prove authenticity. They are aware this is a problem for some countries when producing these documents but they must draw the line.
Immigration lawyers/DN specialists are very wary of a client having fake documents. One client having one fake document can throw into doubt all previous applications submitted and lead to a review of all files.

Denials
These continue to rise for the above reasons and also because people are using out-of-date lists, making mistakes on application forms, paying incorrect tasas, submitting missing documents, missing parts of documents, etc. As they are heavily overloaded, if the application is not perfect, it has a higher chance of being directly denied.

Appeals
There are huge numbers of appeals, most with very little chance of approval. Unfortunately, many gestors or lawyers unfamiliar with the Digital Nomad programme and the UGE offer this as a solution to a badly presented application. In 2025, there were three people working on renewals, and now, even with 12 people working on them, it is not enough, and there will be delays.

CHANGES
Digital Nomad Initial Applications
a. Bank Statements
They must be either signed by the bank, rubber-stamped by the bank, or notarised. Notary declarations are accepted. One bank certificate/summary can be used for all other bank statements of the same account owner and account.

b. Physical Copies
The UGE may request an applicant to present the original paper document to verify it is genuine. The UGE has never had to do this before.

c. Three Years' Experience
Despite rumours, a work contract by itself is not complete proof of that experience. A government-issued document is required, preferably a work life history, apostilled and translated.

d. Sole Business Owners
While technically you can apply as the owner of your own business, it causes a conflict with the paperwork (work contract), implies you are at the place of business, and later creates issues with taxes. Third-party contracts are required with business clients, together with all supporting documentation. Applying as a contractor or employee is the more straightforward option.

e. Job Title
Any job title or description related to running the production or employees of a company is considered to involve, at least in part, on-site work. Senior management, HR, production, facility management, etc., all imply being where the action is, at the office.

A General Manager of a bakery, production plant, or store is not a "remote" job. Marketing, accounting, or software development at the same bakery could be.

f. Autónomo (Self-Employed) Registration.
Self-employed individuals are expected to register within a very short period after approval. The Director mentioned this can technically be done within 48 hours (??) and without the need for a Digital Certificate. Basically, when approved, register quickly and keep all appointments (citas) and receipts to show you are in the process.

DIGITAL NOMAD RENEWALS
a. Streamlined if the Same Company
If you work for the same company with the same contract as the original application, the renewal is more straightforward and much less supporting documentation is needed.

If you have changed client or employer, it is like an original application, with all the documents required relating to the new business client/employer.

b. Two Years of Tax Returns Are Required
This is for two reasons:
Many people originally applied, were approved, left Spain, and remained outside the country for most of the time. These people will now not be able to renew.
To check that your gross income meets the minimum requirements. Many people applied and then reduced their income to only a few hundred euros per month.

c. Autónomo Registration Soon After Initial Approval
This is a major change and was not a requirement originally. However, many people are receiving this requirement. There is no exact time given for how long is considered too long, but there have been at least five reports of people who took four months to register being asked to provide an explanation.

There are solutions to this issue, but they depend on the individual case and what has happened.

The initial registration can be backdated. Many gestors do not know how to do this, and it can take 2–3 weeks, with fines and back payments due. If you receive this requirement, it can be very stressful, so it is better to be prepared.

NOTE: If you are denied for this reason and later backdate the registration, you can request approval.

If you have documentation to show why you delayed (appointments, Social Security requirements, etc.), this can be used to justify the delay.

There are other solutions depending on your situation, whether you work as an employee or contractor, whether there was a break in your application, etc. Check with your DN specialist.

SUMMARY
Use an updated checklist.
Have a consultation with an experienced Digital Nomad professional.
Don't cut corners or assume the UGE will make an exception or understand why you do not have a document. Provide exactly what is required in the format they require.
Don't apply directly as a business owner. If this is recommended, get a second opinion.
If renewing, check when you registered as an autónomo. If it was more than four months after approval, check what it would take to correct the gap.

If you have any questions, please ask in the comments below.

𝐃𝐈𝐆𝐈𝐓𝐀𝐋 𝐍𝐎𝐌𝐀𝐃 – 𝐔𝐩𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬, 𝐃𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐬 & 𝐑𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐰𝐚𝐥 𝐈𝐬𝐬𝐮𝐞𝐬

𝐔𝐏𝐃𝐀𝐓𝐄𝐒 𝐢𝐧 𝐑𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬
Since May 2026 there have been 3 confirmed changes to the requirements, some known and this is just to clarify them.
These have been confirmed either by the UGE in correspondence or verified by through requirements received.
These are additional to the various new requirements issued in Feb 2026.

𝟏.𝐁𝐚𝐧𝐤 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐛𝐞 𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐌𝐏𝐄𝐃 𝐨𝐫 𝐒𝐈𝐆𝐍𝐄𝐃 𝐨𝐫 𝐍𝐎𝐓𝐀𝐑𝐈𝐙𝐄𝐃
This is easier to do in your home country but can be done in Spain at a Notary.
At least one of bank documents should show: Bank name & logo, your full name, full account number, date.

𝟐.𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞 (𝐂𝐨𝐂) must be accompanied by the Bilateral Social Security Agreement, indicating Remote work is covered.
Most bilateral SS agreements do NOT cover remote work.
These countries do cover remote work: UK, EU (A1) also USA, Canada & Russia (CoC)

𝟑.𝐁𝐨𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐏𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐄𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐲 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐬 𝐨𝐫 𝐃𝐞𝐜𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐄𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐲.
The EES system is almost fully operational and the UGE office should have access but that is not 100% confirmed yet as there are technical issues. The Passports are not stamped and many Border Police are refusing to stamp or issue Declarations of Entry. Therefore, if you cannot the stamp or declaration then it is key to hold onto to the boarding pass. Flight tickets are not as good as boarding passes.

𝐃𝐄𝐍𝐈𝐀𝐋𝐒 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐞 – 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝟑 𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐬
𝟏.𝐎𝐮𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐫𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬
Many people and “professionals” are using out of date lists of requirements from 2025. There have been many changes and there are many small details that are key: Job title, 100% remote work, CEOs/Directors more complex, changes for employee letters, professional jobs permitted, business owners applying as business owners, etc.
Online or with Chatgpt the lists are improving but are not reliable as the information is incomplete; either taken from the consulates which have different requirements and vary from consulate to consulate or AI is just mixing what it finds online and that is usually wrong, confused with other immigration procedures, old blogs or just out of date.

𝐒𝐎𝐋𝐔𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍 Get a correct updated detailed list from May 2026 from a Digital Nomad Specialist that has attended the recent conferences and with hundreds of approvals.

𝟐. 𝐈𝐧𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐫𝐞 & 𝐃𝐨𝐜𝐮𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬
The UGE office, that handle the Digital Nomad has a different system, forms, procedure than the regular immigration office. The UGE is ultra precise and particular on small details. Each document should be exactly they way they want it.
The most typical mistakes are: Error with application form, wrong box ticked, Tasa form incorrect, Tasa not paid correctly, incomplete documents, letter wording wrong, job title unclear, job tasks not 100% remote, work contract missing data, contradictions between documents (CV, letter, contract), bank documents unclear, screenshots used, partial documents, etc, etc.

𝐍𝐎𝐓𝐄: Most Digital Nomads are professionals, experts in their field, with years of experience, yet a few somehow convince themselves they can move to a foreign country, with a complex, overly bureaucratic & often illogical immigration system and despite that, try and take on one of the most complex & precise immigration processes with the UGE that many immigration lawyers avoid.

𝟑.𝐏𝐨𝐨𝐫 𝐨𝐫 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐚𝐝𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞 & 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞
Speaking with other professionals, everyday we get urgent requests for help from people who have hired a service or agency but then were either denied, a requirement was not answered or the person they hired stop answering emails and calls.
Often these are urgent and understandably very stressing, especially if the whole family moved.
Many DN specialists are online helping people with these issues. However, taking over the case from another person in mid application is usually a bad idea. It is lose-lose situation.

𝐒𝐎𝐋𝐔𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍:
Organize a consultation with a Digital Nomad Specialist with hundreds of approvals and then decide if you can do it yourself or not.
Avoid free sales gimmick consultations for 15 minutes or chats with interns, caseworkers and instead speak to the person who is updated, attended conferences, ask how many cases they have done personally, etc-

𝐀𝐏𝐏𝐄𝐀𝐋𝐒 – 𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐥𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠
Appeals are often sold as a solution when an application has been submitted badly however most appeals will fail and have a weak or no legal basis.
Bad services will offer these as a solution, charge additional fees despite knowing they will fail 6 months down the line.
Appeals only have a chance when the UGE made a mistake.
If you missed a deadline or ignored a requirement, or did not submit the exact document or a lawyer mistake, the Appeal will fail.

𝐑𝐄𝐍𝐄𝐖𝐀𝐋𝐒
Renewal is just like a new application with its own complexities and different options to renew which cause confusion.
𝐄𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐲𝐞𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐀𝐮𝐭𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐨 (𝐒𝐞𝐥𝐟 𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐲𝐞𝐝)
-𝐀𝐮𝐭𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐨 𝐭𝐨 𝐀𝐮𝐭𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐨
-𝐀𝐮𝐭𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐨 𝐭𝐨 𝐄𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐲𝐞𝐞
-𝐁𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐨𝐰𝐧𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐨 𝐀𝐮𝐭𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐨
-𝐁𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐨𝐰𝐧𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐨 𝐄𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐲𝐞𝐞
-𝐃𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐍𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐚 𝐃𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐍𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐝

It is 𝐕𝐈𝐓𝐀𝐋 that you are aware of the changes in requirements which are a lot stricter than they were 2-3 years ago. You can reuse some of the documents but they MUST meet the new requirements completely.

These are the main issues coming up:
𝟏.𝐒𝐎𝐂𝐈𝐀𝐋 𝐒𝐄𝐂𝐔𝐑𝐈𝐓𝐘 𝐇𝐈𝐒𝐓𝐎𝐑𝐘
Not registered with Social Security correctly either with the CoC or as Autonomo. The UGE can check when you started your Autonomo or if any changes happened to your CoC.
If you did not start Autonomo until 8 months after your initial approval you could serious and expensive issues.

𝟐.𝐂𝐨𝐂-𝐀𝟏 𝐎𝐔𝐓 𝐎𝐅 𝐃𝐀𝐓𝐄
If the CoC or A1 is out of date it can take months to get a new one and the timing is tricky and risky. The simplest solution is to modify to Autonomo

𝟑. 𝐄𝐌𝐏𝐋𝐎𝐘𝐄𝐄 𝐭𝐨 𝐀𝐔𝐓𝐎𝐍𝐎𝐌𝐎
If you change from employee to autonomo you must be registered as autonomo in Spain for 3 months before applying

𝟒. 𝐎𝐍𝐄 𝐌𝐎𝐍𝐓𝐇 𝐨𝐫 𝐓𝐇𝐑𝐄𝐄 𝐌𝐎𝐍𝐓𝐇𝐒 𝐏𝐀𝐘𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐒
If your contract and client/employer are the same as the initial application, you only need to show one months invoice/payslip.
If you have a different client you must show 3 months invoices.
If your employer has changed and you have NOT informed the UGE, consult with a specialist.

𝐁𝐔𝐒𝐈𝐍𝐄𝐒𝐒 𝐎𝐖𝐍𝐄𝐑𝐒
Business owners should renew as Autonomo or if possible as employee and not as business owners as this has tax implications, social security scruntiny if not registered as a business owner Autonomo, not being 100% remote and will lead to additional requirements.

𝗦𝗨𝗠𝗠𝗔𝗥𝗬 𝘁𝗼 𝗔𝗩𝗢𝗜𝗗 𝗗𝗘𝗡𝗜𝗔𝗟
-Make sure you are working with the most updated list of requirements.
-Consult with a DN specialists who has hundreds of approvals.
-Understand the small details behind each document.

If you have any questions or need a detailed updated list of requirements please let me know in the comments below.

Thank you to the Digital Nomad Divas (Richelle, Pablo, Marian, Lucinda & Carlos for tax issues). They helped with the information and continually share information, updates and answer questions to help people in the process.

New Valencia Train Station & Central Park Design

The opinions differ on the design with some Valencianos saying it looks like a theme park and others loving it as unique.

The view in the main photo from the current entrance (which will remain the same) looking south.
The Ave intercity train station Joaquin Sorolla will move underground and the area in currently occupies will be converted to form a large central park.
The train lines going south wil be coverted to a 3 km green runway connecting to another Park, Parc TuriaNova next to La Fe hospital

𝐃𝐈𝐆𝐈𝐓𝐀𝐋 𝐍𝐎𝐌𝐀𝐃 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐲 𝐚𝐬 𝐚 𝐁𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐎𝐰𝐧𝐞𝐫

There are 4 ways to apply for the Digital Nomad(DN):
1. DN employee
2. DN contractor
3. DN Business owner passthrough as Self-employed
4. DN business owner (not recommended)

A business owner may have all 4 options, but which one is best?
You must consider two separate issues:
-The Immigration DN application process and what is required.
-The serious Tax implications that can come AFTER approval of immigration residency.

A major difference in Spain compared to most other countries is that if you are a business owner from a tax perspective you as an individual are not completely separate from your company. You cannot be an employee and must register as an Autonomo Societario (self-employed business owner).
While these rules do not directly apply to foreign company structures it can cause a conflict of paperwork when you apply for Digital Nomad and later with the Social Security and Tax office. A careful preparation can avoid these conflicts and trigger words that lead to more documents, deadends or massive tax issues.

𝐄𝐌𝐏𝐋𝐎𝐘𝐄𝐄
You can apply with an employee contract to your company.
You will also need a Certificate of Coverage(CoC or A1) issued by your country’s Social Security office and letter from your ‘employer’ stating you are transferred/displaced to Spain for XYZ reason.

This has 2 advantages:
a). You avoid registering as self-employed(autonomo) in Spain which can be messy and expensive.
b). As an employee with a CoC/A1 you can apply for Beckham’s Law flat tax rate of 24% on Income generated from Spain. Income from outside Spain, Capital Gains, Dividends are not taxed.

The disadvantages are:
a). Your country may not have a Social Security CoC agreement with Spain.
b). The CoC/A1 can have a set limit of time, example 2 years for the UK A1.
c). If you are a DN + with a CoC + Beckhams Law + business owner you may have more risk of scrutiny from the Spanish tax office.

𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐓𝐑𝐀𝐂𝐓𝐎𝐑
You can have a contractor contract for services with your own company.
You will also need a government issued document that you are registration as Self-Employed for at least 3 months before application.

Advantages:
a). Slightly easier process.
b). When you register as autonomo(self-employed) in Spain you are less on the tax office radar as a business owner.
c). You and your family will be covered by Spanish Healthcare which is pretty good.

Disadvantages:
a). You cannot apply for Beckham’s Law.
b). You must register as Autonomo in Spain which is messy and requires SS registration and payment every month and quarterly invoice declarations to the tax office.

𝐁𝐔𝐒𝐈𝐍𝐄𝐒𝐒 𝐎𝐖𝐍𝐄𝐑 𝐩𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐚𝐬 𝐒𝐞𝐥𝐟-𝐄𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐲𝐞𝐝
If you are a sole business owner you can use your LLC or Ltd as a passthrough to prove your registration as self-employed. Therefore 100% of your earnings are shown on the DN application and later with the tax office.

Advantages:
1). If you cannot get a document that shows you are self-employed this can work.
2). The advantages of being a contractor (see above).

Disadvantages:
1). You must have a contract with a 3rd party business. Individuals are not accepted.
2). You must provide all documents related to your company plus the client company.
3). Payments are made by your client to your company and from your company to you for the same value.
4). 100% of income received into the company is tax liable in Spain.
5). The disadvantages of being a contractor (see above).

𝐁𝐔𝐒𝐈𝐍𝐄𝐒𝐒 𝐎𝐖𝐍𝐄𝐑
There is a lot of confusion on this point and in this case ‘Business owner’ means applying on the basis that you own the business and not as a contractor or employee.
It is not recommended because while it is possible in theory, in reality it hits problems in the DN application process and later after DN approval serious issues with the tax office.

For the DN application you will have to show 3rd party contracts with other businesses and proof your company is registered for more than one year, is currently active and has proof of production (bills, expenses, sales documents showing real business).
The biggest problem comes after approval with the Tax office. As a business owner you must register as an Autonomo Societario (self-employed business owner). When you do that you need to register your business in Spain. Therefore you will be working for a Spanish company and invalidating the DN residency as working for a non-Spanish company.
The Director of the DN office(UGE) recommended in a conference in Nov 2025 and Feb 2026 NOT to apply as a business owner for the above reason.

There are lawyers and agencies that still recommend this as technically you can get approved for the DN residency. However, they usually disappear later when you will hit problems with the tax office.

Advantages:
a). There are none.

Disadvantages:
a). It is NOT recommended by the DN Director.
b). It is a more complex application requiring more paperwork.
c). It is more difficult to prove you work is 100% remote, as you run the company.
d). Spanish tax office will obligate you to register in Spain and pay corporate taxes in Spain.

𝐇𝐎𝐖 𝐓𝐎 𝐃𝐄𝐂𝐈𝐃𝐄?
It is best to consult with a Tax lawyer in Spain familiar Digital Nomads, Beckham’s law and the tax implications and work backwards from there to decide which option fits best.
They can also advise on the best way to set-up or present your company to avoid being considered a Permanent Establishment (PE). A PE is when the Spanish tax office considers your company effectively run from Spain so should pay corporate taxes in Spain.

If an immigration lawyer, gestor, or agency recommends applying directly as a business owner, it is advisable to obtain a second opinion or check with a Tax Lawyer. This issue is one of the factors contributing to increased DN application denials.

𝐒𝐔𝐌𝐌𝐀𝐑𝐘
It is possible for business owners and their families to obtain Digital Nomad residency with the correct preparation. An experienced specialist who is fully up to date with current requirements can help structure the application appropriately.
Most of are clientes are small business owners and all have been approved. Careful preparation of the documents and going into detail on why can avoid any issues.

If you need a detailed updated list of requirements please PM us your e-mail.

Although there are a lot of activities already underway the official start is on 14 March with the "planta" er****on of 800+ monuments all over the city, bringing a lockdown to traffic and welcoming an estimated million visitors.
It is a must see Fiesta in Spain and with incredibly beautiful 30m/100 feet high Fallas built for 5 days and then burnt to the ground.
Incredible fireworks day and night, concerts, events, street food, paella cooking and over 100,000 Falleras, the Queens of the festival offering flowers to build the huge 14 meter high Virgen Mary’s dress.
Visually impactive, noisy but a celebration of the best of Valencia

𝗠𝗔𝗜𝗡 𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗦
14:00 every day: Mascleta Day Fireworks at Plaza Ayuntamiento.
24:00 every day: Huge Fireworks displays, at the City of Science.
Every night: Concerts large and small all over the city.

17:30 17th to 18th March: The Ofrenda (Flower offering) with over 100,000 Falleras from all over Spain parading to the Virgins at Plaza de La Virgen.

𝗗𝗜𝗚𝗜𝗧𝗔𝗟 𝗡𝗢𝗠𝗔𝗗 – 𝗜𝗻𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗗𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗮𝗹𝘀: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝟯 𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻𝘀
Denials are up, alot. The Digital Nomad(DN) office, the UGE has mentioned this, more and more people are reporting online they have been denied. And law firms and specialists who deal with Digital Nomad applications are also seeing the same increase

This is due to various reasons mainly related the with significant changes in requirements on Nov 2025, then in Feb 2026. It is not exactly that the requirements have changed, but that the interpretation of them has changed and therefore how something as to be proved. Some changes were good, some bad and others confusing.
Being self-employed needed an additional document to confirm it was true because the UGE discovered many people just invented it for the application. The USA Social Security CoC technically did not cover remote work, then the US Embassy stepped in to say it did, so 2 changes one after the other. Some jobs were considered not remote enough, which is subjective. The income requirements relaxed and made it easier for families. But it became tougher for Business owners to apply as business owners. Letters could be less detailed. Professionals (Doctors, Lawyers, etc) did not need to homologate, etc, etc.

From the Feb 2026 Conference with the Digital Nomad Director the requirements were very clear, he went into detail with examples and explained the reasons for the changes.

𝗦𝗢 𝗪𝗛𝗬 𝗔𝗥𝗘 𝗗𝗘𝗡𝗜𝗔𝗟𝗦 𝗨𝗣?
1. People are applying with outdated or old lists.
2. Self-employed applicants do not have proof they were self-employed before applying.
3. Job descriptions are not clearly remote work

𝗢𝗨𝗧𝗗𝗔𝗧𝗘𝗗 𝗟𝗜𝗦𝗧𝗦
If you do not have the most recent list of requirements, it is a major problem.
A lot of Lawyers, Gestors and Agencies also do not have the latest lists and work based on what worked last year. Unless they were at the last conference and have processed hundreds of applications, it’s very tough. Most were not conference or are not following the updates closely, so work on second hand information. This also causes a lot of confusion and contradiction online.

If you apply on your own without the updated list, it is possible in theory, but incredibly risky. There are many small details, precise wording for the key documents.

SOLUTION: Get the new detailed list, study it. Even better do a consultation with an experienced DN Specialist or hire one for the whole process. Avoid partial or old lists or sales pitch lists online, they will confuse you. ChatGPT works on what is online but what's online can be old or incomplete so make sure of the source

𝗦𝗘𝗟𝗙-𝗘𝗠𝗣𝗟𝗢𝗬𝗘𝗗
You must have a Government (SS, tax, county, state) issued document with: your name: “self-employed” or “1099” and it must be at least 3 months old. This must be apostille stamped & translated. Without it you will be denied.

SOLUTION: It can be difficult to get this in many countries but the UGE have published a list of about 10 documents are accepted. USA, Canada, UK, etc self-employed applicants are obtaining it and being approved. If your country has zero of these documents you can route your payments through an LLC and use that as proof.

𝟭𝟬𝟬% 𝗥𝗘𝗠𝗢𝗧𝗘 𝗪𝗢𝗥𝗞
This has always been a requirement, but it became sloppily presented in the documents. The UGE mentioned people would contradict themselves in their job description in the letter, work contract and CV. Therefore they began to tighten down to make sure it really was 100% remote and not 95% remote.
Your job maybe a 100% clear for you but how does it look on the documents.
We see this a lot, and work on clearing it up.
If your tasks mention meetings, change it to online meetings or Zooms.
Teacher? Make sure it is online teaching. Film Director/Editor? Emphasize it’s Digital.
Any company doing physical work: Plumbing companies, Garden, Building, TV, etc. all imply being there in person, especially if you are a manager.
A Marketing Manager can be remote but can a Production Manager? a CEO? Sales? Designer?

SOLUTION: Get someone to check your documents and see if it makes sense to them that your job title is 100% remote. Avoid director or high management titles that imply you are where the main workforce is. If in contact with people, production, outdoors, etc. clarify that it is done from your laptop.
