🔥Osa 3/3 – Valo, kokko ja yhdessäolo

Juhannusyönä järven rannalla palava kokko, veden pinta ja pitkä valoisa ilta ovat maisemia, jotka jäävät mieleen.

Myöhemmin juhannus on ollut myös musiikkia ja tanssia – yhdessäoloa, joka jatkuu myöhään yöhön, joskus lavalla, joskus omassa pihassa.

Juhannus on minulle ennen kaikkea tunne.

Valo.
Luonto.

Part 3/3 – Light, Bonfires and Togetherness

On Midsummer night, the bonfire by the lake, the reflection on the water, and the endless light create memories that stay with you.

Later in life, Midsummer has also become music and dancing – moments of togetherness that continue late into the night, sometimes at a dance pavilion, sometimes simply in a backyard.

For me, Midsummer is above all a feeling.

Light.
Nature.
Closeness.

🔥 Osa 2/3 – Muistoja juhannuksesta: Sauna ja juhannuspöytä

Juhannussauna on minulle yksi koko juhlan tärkeimmistä hetkistä.

Saunassa käytiin usein jo päivällä, kun valo oli vielä kirkas ja maailma tuntui rauhalliselta. Koivuvihdan tuoksu, lämpö ja iholla tuntuva pehmeys kuuluvat edelleen vahvasti juhannusmuistoihini.

Saunan jälkeen oli aina hiljaisempi olo, kuin kaikki ylimääräinen olisi jäänyt ulkopuolelle.

Ja aina juhannukseen kuuluu ruoka: uudet perunat, lohi savustettuna, graavattuna ja monella muulla tavalla valmistettuna, muut kalat, kesän ensimmäiset mansikat ja tietenkin mansikkakakku.

Täydellistä.

Part 2/3 – Sauna and the Midsummer Table

The Midsummer sauna remains one of the most meaningful traditions for me.

We often went already during the day, while the light was still bright and everything felt calm. The scent of fresh birch, the warmth, and the gentle touch of the whisk on the skin are memories I still carry with me.

After the sauna, there was always a sense of peace, as if everything unnecessary had been left behind.

And of course, there is the food: new potatoes, salmon prepared in many ways, other fresh fish, the first strawberries of summer, and strawberry cake.

🌿 Osa 1/3 – Juhannuksen ensimerkit Taina Tukiainen

Juhannus on minulle aina ollut hetki, jolloin aika hidastuu.

Lapsuudesta mieleeni on jäänyt erityisesti juhannuksen valmistelu – se pieni jännitys, kun koivunoksat haettiin ja tuotiin kotiin. Muistan, kuinka ne asetettiin ovenpieliin ja joskus myös sisälle, kuin kesä olisi haluttu tuoda ihan lähelle, osaksi huoneita ja hengitystä.

Koivun tuoksu merkitsi aina sitä, että juhannus oli todella alkanut.

Luonnonkukat kuuluvat myös vahvasti juhannukseen. Niitä kerättiin niityiltä ja tienvarsilta, ja niissä oli jotakin herkkää ja lähes salaista. Seitsemän kukan laittaminen tyynyn alle tuntui lapsena melkein taialta – ajatuksena, että uni voisi paljastaa jotakin tulevasta.🌼

Midsummer has always been a moment when time feels slower to me.

One of my strongest childhood memories is preparing for the celebration – the quiet excitement of bringing birch branches home. They were placed by the doorway and sometimes even indoors, as if summer itself were being welcomed inside.

The scent of birch always meant that Midsummer had truly begun.

Wildflowers were also an important part of the celebration. We gathered them from meadows and roadsides, and there was something delicate and almost secret about them. Placing seven flowers under a pillow felt like magic – as if dreams might reveal something about the future.🌼
