Natalie Portman has been quietly living in Paris for years.
And in a recent interview, she explained why she stays.

She says Paris has given her something rare as a global star: privacy.
In France, being discreet is valued. She has said that being described as “very discreet” feels like a compliment here.

She also pushed back on the cliché that Parisians are rude.
Her experience is the opposite. She explains that politeness matters in daily life. Saying “bonjour” when entering a shop is not optional. It sets the tone. When you respect that code, people are warm and helpful.

Portman also talks about how children behave in France.
Kids visiting her home greet adults properly, use formal language, and say thank you before leaving. She sees this as learned social respect, not stiffness.

What stands out most is her view that Paris is not trying to please you.
The culture has rules. You learn them. Once you do, the city opens up in quiet ways.
