The ski season has started well and our chalet is ready for our Christmas and New Year guests. Season's greetings to one and all.

Sunshine was in very limited supply this week. Despite the daily bitterly chilly weather (between -2 and -9) the regular overnight snow ensured terrific conditions underfoot and wind was only an issue on our first day. We drank a lot of hot chocolate!

It was lovely to revisit Cret Beni after a long absence, where we had the place to ourselves, be impressed by the new bubble which replaced the ancient chair at Morgins and make our very first visit to Bernex where the view across the Abondance valley to Mont Blanc is surely one of the finest of all (and where incidentally Les Marmottes' lunch is terrific) and, finally, enjoy the restaurant in Le Fer Rouge.

Haven't posted for a long time so here's a selection from the last year. There's always something to enjoy in this beautiful part of the world, whether it's crazy golf in Evian, enjoying the breathtaking views or sitting at the top of the ski area.

A belated update from our annual autumn trip. Almost had the valley to ourselves, meeting just 4 people on this magnificent 8 mile walk from Bassachaux at the head of Chatel over to the Col de Chesery in Switzerland.

It's been a long wait but the Tour de France finally arrived in Chatel after a 47 year gap, with Stage 9 finishing at Pre la Joux after coming over the Pas de Morgins. Even better, the Tour returned to the Abondance Valley on Stage 10 (after many teams had stayed overnight in La Chapelle), passing through Chevenoz on the way from Morzine to Megeve. These pictures include Tadej Pogacar, Jonas Vingegaard (now in the Maillot Jaune) and Thibaut Pinot - and a bloke in a bear suit.

And by way of complete contrast, some goats below the Bise, playing cards on the terrace after another glorious day, and the sunset over the Belvedere du Trechauffe on Bastille day.

A very happy Christmas and New Year to all our followers.

What a contrast from just a few weeks ago. Haven't seen this much snow at the chalet in December for a long time - 2 metres in 10 days followed by cold sunny weather made for fantastic skiing conditions last week.

It's been a tough year again (between us P has been twice, M once and J&J not at all) and 2022 is not shaping up to be any easier as a result of new French restrictions for UK citizens. So thanks to our French guests in particular who have been enjoying the wonders of the Abondance valley. We hope to be back ourselves very soon.

It's been more than a year since any of us, other than very welcome French guests, were here, but here we are at last. And what a week we picked - glorious sunshine, the very best of the Autumn colours and the first snowfall as we left. Here's the photos to prove it including trips to Ubine, the base of the Cornettes de Bise, the Belvedere de Trechauffe and a tough walk to Morclan which has quite possibly the best views in the Portes du Soleil - 360 degrees as far as Mont Blanc and the Eiger. With luck we'll be back in December to prep the chalet for our Christmas and New Year guests. And let the skiing begin.

A very happy Christmas to all our followers. It has been a difficult year for everybody, several visits to the chalet have been cancelled including our traditional pre-Christmas visit to make it all festive and we may see more cancellations yet. Nevertheless, we are delighted to welcome our Christmas guests. We have been here for 15 years now so here is a selection of some of our favourite photos.
