Beautiful traditional village house with a contemporary twist and chalet for sale. Situated in a picturesque village at the foot of the Pic de Bugarach halfway between Perpignan and Carcassonne, ideal for the mountains and for the Med. An idyllic place to discover wildlife and stunning landscape, but close enough to large bustling towns and Spain to benefit from some cosmopolitan culture, traditio
nal markets, some superb eateries and fine wine. House
The house is made up of three parts, the house, an artist's studio (which both lead onto a large courtyard) and a cinema/party room; all boast spacious living rooms which are cool in the summer and cosy in the winter thanks to the wood burning stoves. The upstairs double bedroom leads onto a terrace where you can eat breakfast in the sun and the studio benefits from a large picture window, so you can eat supper watching the sunset gazing down the valley towards the Pyrenees. The studio is a multi-purpose space with a minstrels gallery overlooking the ground floor living area - here you can indulge your passion for art/craft/yoga or just sit in the cavernous space enjoying the peace and tranquility with a good book. This recently renovated space leads to the main house. The open plan kitchen/dining room is a blend of the old and the new, the well-equipped kitchen is situated in what looks like a traditional wine cellar with an arched ceiling with a huge oak table. From this area a choice of two archways takes you into the lounge fronted by two double doors also leading onto the courtyard. The spacious double bedroom is light and airy with great views form the two large double windows. Next to this is another bedroom and, opposite, a further bedroom on a quaint mezzanine above the bathroom. The bathroom is another mix of 'country-cottage' and contemporary style with a Starck inspired bath and chic shower. The cinema is a versatile space, has a platform/stage and an enormous cinema screen - could be another living area, or easily adapted to bedrooms...
Wood-burners heat the studio, lounge and upstairs - wood is readily available form the genial local farmer and his daughter, who will be more than willing to supply you with fresh eggs and her own handmade sausages. Chalet
Idyllic Chalet situated on 1500m2 of land. The chalet was built in 2006 - benefits from the sun all day and has underfloor heating. The lounge/dining/kitchen area downstairs is light and airy with large french-windows, so you can eat supper watching the sunset gazing down the valley towards the Pyrenees. Also downstairs is a double bedroom, bathroom and separate toilet. The upstairs open-plan bedroom/living area overlooks the lounge and could easily be divided up to create two bedrooms. St Louis will charm you into a more sedate and enriching pace of life, but still can also fulfil your more sociable side, the locals are the salt of the earth and will welcome you to the regular village meals and aperos. Caudies and Bugarach are 10km, Quillan 14km. The house and chalet could be bought together or separately and either, or both, providing a healthy rental income throughout the year. Chalet: 120,000 euros.
