Lovely day agaon today, here in the Charente, but a touch cooler with a blustery breeze. I believe rain is coming tonight.
The last two days have been glorious with wall to wall sunshine and a temperature around 16/17 C.
Saturday Anne, Brandy and I went to visit the Memorial to the Resistance in WW2. It lies on a hill top near Chasseneuil and overlooks the countryside for miles around.
It is set out like the Allied cemeteries in Normandy with rows of headstones, each marked with the name of a fallen resistance fighter. In the centre lieas a mausoleum dedicated to the Resistance.
I have added a couple of photos. I took more but thanks to French rural internet connections they are lost somewhere in the ether, between my phone and my laptop. Ah well, such is life in France!

The weather is just going mad, 17 degrees again today, here in the Charente, with a glorious pale blue sky!!
Took Brandy for a walk around the lake and through the woods at nearby Etagnac this afternoon. I was wearing far too many layers for the temperature. The coats gradually had to come off.
Forecast says the same again tomorrow. Here's hoping.

Brandy and I have had interesting walks today.

On the first walk we encountered Bingley the Bull in the middle of the lane. This is not an uncommon occurence. Bingley is a young Limousin Bull and likes to wander. Brandy usuallyherds him back in to the field.
Today, however, Bingley had brought his big brother, Bradford, with him for protection. It was definitely a scene from Last Man Standing. Brandy faced up to Bradford & Bingley; may the best man win (or something like that)??
Brandy wasn't for giving ground and Bradford & Bingley had to give way fleeing up the lane towards safety. Brandy continued his walk with a contented look on his face.
Later whhen we were at the top of a hill about half way round our walk we heard this roar and two French Air Force jets swooped past us, literally feet above our heads. Brandy just stood there watrching them with awe.
It's been an exciting day

Brandy joined us to watch the New Year Concert from Vienna. he got so in to the music he decided to join in, playing his new toy - Peppa Pig. We appreciated his enthusiasm but it did sound more raspberry than rhapsody!!!
We also decided to enjoy the concert with a cocktail. Anne made herself a Loch Almond - half whisky, half amaretto. Janet and I had non alcoholic pina coladas.
A good time was had by all.

THE World has gone mad! 30th December and we drove back from the supermarket with the top down on the car as it was so warm and sunny.
Brandy, who is becoming quite a big boy now, took advantage and sat with his head out of the top enjoying the breeze through his hair. Crazy!!
Have a great New Year everybody.

When you see and hear all that is happening to our friends across West Yorkshire you hesitate to write a good news story, but we have had a great Christmas.
It started with a full moon in a clear black sky early Christmas Day morning. Brandy decided he could open his own presents as shown in the photo below. Thomas enjoyed playing with his Christmas Pudding mobile. I think Santa brought them more presents that us adults.
Both Christmas Day and Boxing Day were glorious, warm, sunny days. Anne, Brandy and I posed for a photo out on the lawn.We had drinks at friends on Christmas Day morning and a house full on Boxing Day afternoon.Brandy made friends with Brian and his family as you can see from the family photo.
For those of you who were not so lucky I hope that 2016 is a better year for you. All the best.
Struggling to get last two photos to download, lost patience with the programme.

Visited the Christmas market at Chassenon this morning, the weather was beautiful. We were able to go out just in jumpers and no coats.
Took Brandy with us. It's his first time in such a busy place. We were unsure how he would cope but he needed the experience. He did really well; pulled quite a bit at the beginning as there were so many people, sounds and smells, but eventually he calmed down and walked through the market with me.
I gave him 20 minutes and then took him back to the car whilst we looked around the rest of the market. It was a good visit.and a good experience for Brandy.

We had a visitor today. Frank is the son in law of our friends. He is Chinese and wanted to learn how Janet made her pastry and mince pies. So she gave him a demonstration and he joined in. They made another 4 dozen: should keep me going right up to Christmas Day now.
Frank made a new friend whilst he was here. Brandy loved playing with him and would follow Frank around the house wherever he went. Frank kept Brandy occupied for ages.
You can come again Frank!!

CHRISTMAS SPIRIT
We really started to get in to the Christmas Spirit today when Janet baked her first batch of mince pies- four and a half dozen. Should keep me going until the weekend!!
It does seem strange, however, baking mince pies when the temperature is around 17Celsius and you have all the doors and windows wide open for ventilation.
Brandy has been helping his Auntie Janet with the baking and then acted as the chief taste tester, just to ensure that they were up to scratch.
Have a Merry Christmas,.from Brandy. Woof woof.

CAUGHT IN THE ACT
Caught the gentleman below trying to get in to the house through our balcony window. Brandy saw him off and then we realised he must have been casing the joint in readiness for next week.
Sorry Santa, all is forgiven. don't forget to call back next Thursday night. We promise you will get a warmer reception.
Love Phillip & Brandy, woof woof.
