Our house has 4 bedrooms 2 en-suite bathrooms and 1 main bathroom. There is a utility/storage room with a washing machine and dryer. Downstairs also consists of a large kitchen with table, a lounge, with a wood burner and a dining area. There is off road parking, for two cars, in the form of a large garage attached to the house Across from the garage is our little secret garden which is still in
need of renovation. Outside the kitchen door is a gated courtyard. Dampierre-sur Boutonne is a village situated in the Charente-Maritime department in southwestern France. The river Boutonne runs through the village its well known for fishing and also there's canoeing . Literally around the corner from the house is a lovely bar/restaurant called La Bonne Etape. We have eaten here many times and never been disappointed. You will always get a warm welcome. The village also has a local shop if you don’t fancy a drive to the local supermarket. The nearest town is Aulnay which is only 8 minutes in the car where you will find the local supermarket, bars and shops. There is a market here every Sunday morning. Saint-Jean D'Angely - 15 miles (25 minutes drive) is a vibrant and bustling town centre, with a twice-weekly market (on Saturdays and Wednesdays). Châtelaillon-Plage – 37 miles (55 mins drive) is a charming seaside resort with 3 km of sandy beaches. La Rochelle – 43 miles (1 hours drive) is an old port, well know for its quays and beautiful narrow streets.
Île de Ré (Ré island) – 47 miles (Just over an hours drive) is famous for its salt marshes, pine forests, vineyards, beachgrass-covered dunes, fine sand beaches, and white-washed villages. 8,532 hectares in size, Ré island is crossed by numerous cycle paths. Pure joy for cycling fans! Oléron island – 60 miles – (1 hour 26 minutes drive) Off Rochefort, Oléron island is the biggest island off the French Atlantic coast with sandy beaches and forests. The Oléron island is also famous for its oyster breeding. Numerous boat trips depart from the island, in particular to see the exterior of Fort Boyard, made famous by the TV show. Cognac – 32 miles – (45 minutes drive) Renowned for its brandy. Besides its famous speciality, Cognac has preserved a number of historic houses, buildings and monuments, such as the Valois castle, the Saint-Jacques gateway flanked by twin machicolated, round towers, and the Saint-Léger church built in the 12th century, evidence of its rich past. Several important Cognac houses are open to the public for brandy cellar visits and tastings.
