And the long drive from Duras to Tuscany is in the books. Now for some wine to close this chapter and start some others.

Au revoir to Duras. And it's over. This morning I locked the door for the final time and headed out for the long trip to Tuscany.
Update: we made it to Nice where we've enjoyed a lovely stroll on the promenade and dinner just a short walk from our hotel on the beach.

The schedule of night markets in Duras this summer. The whole square is filled with long communal tables and surrounded by food trucks and other vendors. Live music fills the air, everyone gets up to dance and the chateau is lit up in jewel box colors. What more could you ask of a summer evening?? Did I mention all this is about 100 yards from the cottage??

My very first visit to Duras was in the late afternoon and I arrived as the sun was setting behind the chateau, much like today. I sat at the café in the village square, had a glass of rosé and just watched as the sun inflamed all the stone buildings, leaving behind a robe of apricot-hued warmth. It's one of the reasons I fell in love with this village and one of the reasons I am still here seven years later.
