Alice is a lovely English lady who runs a cafe in Lodeve with her French husband. On many occasions she has told us of the Thursday evening live music sessions where she invites local musicians to perform and provided supper.

Ann and I were curious about a duo who played and sang Ukrainian and Russian folk songs. Tanya and Vassily entertained us for 90 minutes and included two very well known songs. One was 'Yesterday', and the second 'Dorogoi dinnoyu' was a Russian romance song translated into English.

Our main course was a chicken dish with rice.

For visitors we recommend a visit to 'La Fontaine' on market day or any other day. They serve great coffee and cake!

A lovely walk, starting at Le Barry and climbing past La Castellas to one of the routes to Santiago de Compostela.

Leaving that route and completing a 4.7 mile circuit back to Le Barry

Pezenas is a very old town in the Languedoc. A nightmare to park in summer unless you arrive very early in the morning.

In the cobbled street are a wonderful range of artisan food shops. Not all open in Spring. Those that are, we always stop at to buy local artisan foods. Also Clive of India is linked with the town and his ‘Clive’s Pies’.

Ann also loves to visit pottery and leather goods shops.

It’s another little gem just off an autoroute which most people miss who are heading towards the Mediterranean and Spain

Some visitors to the area like to laze around a swimming pool and others are after more excitement with wild water swimming and canyoning.

The Pont de Diable (it means Devils Bridge) is just outside Saint Jean de Fos on the road to Saint Guilheim le Desert.

It has a lovely beach which gets very busy in summer and an old bridge across the Herault River.

There is a more modern bridge for road transport.

Alaso during the summer months you can park at Pont de Diable and catch the Navette (free shuttle bus) to Saint Guilheim le Desert.

On a road in Lodeve running parallel to the A75 is a sign to 'Prieure Saint Michel de Grandmont.

Ten minutes and 4 miles later upm a narrow winding lane is the entrance to the Priory.

Visiting out of season when its quiet it's a lovely 12th century priory that has been restored in grounds high above the town. (At one point you can see Lake Salagou).

The walk through the priory and over uneven ground takes about an hour. Keep a lookout for animals roaming on the estate.

If you enjoy walking and being out in nature this is one of the many walks within a 10 minute drive of Le Reve.

It is challenging and we recommend good walking shoes or sandals. Also hydration. Many walkers we meet also use walking poles.

After parking your car at Le Barry, there is a continuous climb to l
Le Castellas high above the village. From there the climb continues until you reach a finger post. Total climb about 40 minutes.

Then turn right and continue along tracks using local maps and eventually return to Le Barry.

Its a lovely walk, but not to be attempted in extreme weather unless you are an experienced walker.

Distance 7.7 kms (4.8 miles) Time taken 2 hours 10 minutes

Moureze is a small commune in the Herault region of France about 10 km west of Clerment Herault.

The main reason for tourists visiting the area is the ‘Cirque de Moureze’ a limestone formation of rocks dating from 160 million years ago. Walking the paths through the rocks is slow and walkers are advised to wear walking shoes or boots. As some of the steps are high or deep, you also need to be reasonably fit.

The short circuit is about 3km and can be completed in an hour. The longer circuit of 8km has steeper climbs

In the village there are numerous small coffee shops and restaurants. The largest is probably O’Cirque which is at the beginning or end of the walk.

In the village there is also a cemetery with a sign for ‘Commonwealth War Graves’.

This ‘Cimetiere Militaire’ ion D8E1A. As a memorial to the Maquis Bir Hakeim, who whilst actively fighting N**i oppression, were betrayed.
