There are wonderful roads in France. This isn’t one of them! The Gorges du Tarn roads sadly leave a lot to be desired. Fantastic scenery but tough on the suspension and any other bits of the car that could fall off!

A quick trip to Paris on the superb French trains and we saw plenty of Parisian-style parking, some French icons, and a super Microlino in the wild near the UNESCO building. ❤️🇫🇷

If you were wondering whether the roads around our place are good or not ... this group obviously think they are!

This unusual sight greeted us on our Sunday morning walk into the village. It brightened up an otherwise dull day! 🏁

The pause in flow was due to🚦 but we're sure they caught up along the road. 😁

Our choice for best cars at the 2026 Perigueux Auto Retro. Two Matra Bagheeras (which were difficult to choose between) and a gorgeous bronze Renault Alpine. Super day and some amazing cars.

Notre 911 nécessitait une révision majeure, mais en France rurale, dénicher un spécialiste qui maîtrise parfaitement le modèle et à qui l'on peut confier un travail de qualité relève du parcours du combattant. C'est là que nous avons découvert Roy de 901 Engineering (VW Motorvation en Google Maps).

Après seulement quelques jours passés avec Roy, la voiture roule comme jamais auparavant, et le moteur n'a jamais été aussi beau. Le moteur est souple, gagne en puissance et tourne à la perfection. Nous savions qu'elle n'était pas au meilleur de sa forme, mais Roy l'a transfiguré.

Roy a une expertise fantastique des moteurs refroidis par air, mais aussi d'autres voitures de collection (une Jensen Healey était d'ailleurs dans le garage lors de notre passage). Des mécaniciens de ce calibre sont rares. Si vous exigez le meilleur pour votre voiture, confiez-la à Roy : vous ne serez pas déçu.

#5 in our top places to visit is our regional capital, Perigueux. The end of August is a good time to visit with three days of car-related fun as part of Périgueux Vintage Days. But there’s lots on offer all year round : the Roman quarter with the Jardin des Arènes (Roman amphitheatre), Tour de Vessuna and Gallo-Roman museum; the medieval historic centre with half-timber houses and charming squares; Cathédrale Saint-Front (the inspiration for the Sacré-Coeur in Paris); and plenty of shopping opportunities too!

#4 on our list of local places not to be missed is "le Centre de la mémoire d’Oradour", and the ruins of "le village martyr", a haunting memorial to the massacre of 643 men, women and children by the Waffen SS on June 10 1944. The ruins were preserved and declared a historical monument in 1946.

In the middle of September the centre is undergoing a major renovation so the excellent museum telling the story of the village will unfortunately not be accessible (reopens summer 2027). But you can still visit the village, the cemetery and memorial. It's somewhere you will never forget ... nor should forget.
