Bloomberg recently reported that French realtors would see a slow down in 2021 sales as the impact of Covid is felt on the economy. However, that’s just not what we’re seeing here in the Alps.

True, the criteria for a mortgage may be tighter but low interest rates continue to bolster sales. But that’s not the only reason. With travel restrictions curtailing longed-for holidays, there has been a lean towards purchasing a second property closer to home. The reality of this has been demonstrated by the increase in the number of French buyers we’re seeing here in Méribel and the Alps in general. French buyers have now overtaken the number of traditionally British and international buyers, evidence of which is also shown by the astonishing 116% rise in enquiries from Leggett Immobilier’s French site.

So realtors and vendors of French property can celebrate that, despite the health crisis, the business of second homes is not only alive and well but also thriving.
