Wow 🤩

Beynac was French, Castelnaud was English, and they are within sight of each other. 🏰⚔️

The Dordogne valley was a front line during the Hundred Years' War, and the two fortresses changed hands repeatedly. Richard the Lionheart held Beynac at one point. ⏳📜

Beynac sits 150 metres above the river on a sheer cliff, and its position is the reason it was almost never taken by assault. 🪨✨
