Five years since Brexit… and yes, renewal season has arrived for thousands of Brits.

If you were living in France before Brexit (February 2020) but had been here less than five years, you were issued a five‑year carte de séjour. For around 45,000 UK residents, those cards are now reaching their expiry date.

🗓️ When to Renew
Check the date on the front of your card.
You can apply within the final two months before it expires — not earlier.

💻 How to Renew
The French authorities promise that renewal is much simpler than the original application. There’s now a national online portal, but not every Préfecture uses it.

If your Préfecture is online, they’ll give you a specific link on www.demarches-simplifiees.fr

If not, you’ll need to apply in person at the Préfecture
