Popped down to see Maison Bethany’s tenant earlier and had a little walk through the garden and down to the river. It’s such a beautiful spot and the crystal clear waters offer lovely relief from the summer heat. And have you seen what the weather is doing in Rennes Les Bain’s this week 😍 ☀️ ☀️☀️ Beautiful!

Many moons ago ‘Maison Bethany’ was a successful holiday let.
It ran for years, with people coming from all over the world to house hunt, search for film locations, ski (only 45 minutes from the closest slopes), write, for adventure and walking holidays, cycling holidays, and so much more. It has had such lovely guests.
This somewhat knackered mug is all we have left of the rental days, along with our lovingly filled guest book as the house is now tenanted. It is however, available for sale, though I’m doing a very poor job of advertising it!

If you have an interest in this beautiful corner of France, and a large detached house with a hidden barn and a huge garden with river frontage seems like somewhere you could live, then get in touch. Maison Bethany could be exactly what you’re looking for.

I know things are more than a little crazy right now, not just in France, but globally, but don’t let that stop you from dreaming about moving to France.

There is no right time to visit France, but spring is about new beginnings, so maybe THIS is the time to start making plans to start looking for that second home, that investment for the future, the house of your dreams ready to retire to.

If you are planning on house hunting this lovely country, I highly recommend this time of year to do so, and I personally can’t recommend this pocket of the Aude enough.
This is Maison Bethany, in the spa village of Rennes Les Bains, once intended to be the home my father planned to retire to but plans changed, and now he’s headed to Thailand 😂.

In my capable hands, this large, detached, village house is now for sale.

There are some beautiful lakes throughout France, each one worth a visit to decide if it could be your local spot.
This is the very lovely and surreal blue Lac Montbel. Such a large area with lots of shade for snoozing under, pedlo’s with slides to tire you out, and great food to ensure you don’t starve!

Have you read the controversial book, ‘Holy Blood Holy Grail’? The idea behind the book was the basis for the famed ‘Da Vinci Code’ novel and brought the tourists flocking to the Languedoc!
One of the co-authors, Henry Lincoln, resides in the small but well-known village of Rennes Les Chateau (if you know, you know 😉) and can be found, most Sunday’s in dry weather at the outdoor cafe, chatting to visitors about his thoughts and finds related to the history of this stunningly located village.
If you have never visited Rennes-Les-Chateau, go for the view alone if you have no interest in the history, of the book, but do go. It is a beautiful spot at any time of the year and ideally suited to a sunset picnic.
Only 6 miles from Rennes Les Bains (20 minutes by car) and a mere 3 miles from Couiza (straight up the hill!), this breathtaking spot is on your doorstep and one you will want to revisit time and time again 💕
The pics here show a meeting I had with Henry in Rennes Les Bains a few years ago as he visited Maison Bethany on behalf of an American film producer friend of his who was coming to stay in the area for a while (and yes he did...!).

As a frequent visitor to charity shops in the UK, it goes without saying that one of my favourite pastimes when I’m in France is visiting the brocante shops.
Driving through Bélesta recently I pulled over to visit one I’d never been in before and spotted this painting in there 💕
Brocante shops are everywhere in France, usually not where you’d expect, and are a haven for things like this.

It’s been a little over a week since the Tour de France passed through this area of the Aude stretching on up to the Ariege, but it was great to see the Chateau Ducs de Joyeuse of Couiza getting a spotlight on the coverage 💕

If you’re looking for a great day out for kids and adults alike, located in Bélesta, opposite the Fontaine de Fontestorbes, is the Crapahut Parc Aventure. .
Situated in 4 hectares of forest, 1 h 15 minutes from Toulouse, 1 h from Carcassonne, and 30 mn from Foix, you can test your limits in the tree-to-tree crossings with easy to harder levels, and zip wire yourselves to the finish line with wide smiles 😃
So well priced (by age!), you can basically do the courses as many times as you want throughout the day, and I can highly recommend stopping for a Nutella gaufre (waffle) to get your energy levels back up at some point 😉

As luck would have it, my landing in Toulouse the other day coincided with the night market at Puivert Lake and the annual firework display put on by the same company who do the Bastille Day display at La Cite in Carcassonne. 🎇 🇫🇷
It was a phenomenal display made all the more prominent by the two who shouldn’t have been standing so close to it!
If you are ever in the area, the lake at Puivert is a beautiful setting for a picnic and a little swim (in the warmer months obviously!).

On the 10th of March 2010, snow unexpectedly fell in the Aude.
The village of Rennes Les Bains was even more beautiful when the white out occurred.
