This weekend, as part of les journées du patrimoine, we visited an extraordinary little church in the mountains. Notre Dame des Fontaines is a 12th century chapel completely covered in 15th century frescoes. It's known locally as the Sistine Chapel of the Alpes-Maritimes. The detail in the paintings was incredible.

This weekend it's les journées du patrimoine européens - European Heritage Days, with loads of interesting places open to the public, in the area (and all over France, and I guess Europe!)

Feeling blessed to get such lovely guests at Lou Messugo. Some even bring or leave gifts for us which I always find very touching. Here's a selection of some from the last couple of years: shortbread from Scotland, honey from NZ, Californian poppies from California, several bottles of German w**e, flowers, a scarf (silkscreened by the guest), shopping bag from Arizona, soap, a sketch by a guest (we've had quite a few!), Swiss chocolates and Australian snacks! How lucky are we?

Summer isn't over here at Lou Messugo, and while we're fully booked till 3 October, there is some good news....October is one of the best months on the Riviera, so why not treat yourself to a late, late summer break? (November can be lovely too!)

Dates available: 3-8 October and 18 October onwards

October is the ideal time for outdoor activities like hiking and cycling as it's cooler than summer. But it's also still beach weather if you like to swim.

It's a great time to take a tour, for example to a historic house or on a steam train as places aren't so booked up and you can be more spontaneous.

Prices are also lower than in high season so it's possible to treat yourself to something fun like a day out on a boat.

It's the ideal temperature to both eat outside at lunchtime and sleep well at night. Need I go on?

All the following photos are taken in October. Previous guests who have come for October half term (Toussaint holidays in France) have been surprised and delighted with the variety of activities available at this time of year, mainly because of the mild temperatures and sunny days.

School's back! C'est la rentrée!

In France "la rentrée" is so much more than just school starting again. It's also a return to regular life after the long summer holidays, a sort of "re-set". Many people join gyms or other sports clubs, start diets or detox regimes and make resolutions a bit like at new year.

New installation at Lou Messugo. We've put up a sail to help reduce the temperature both on the terrace and inside the living space though this photo makes me laugh because the only sun is right under it 😂 However at other times of the day it really does provide lots of shade over the table and chairs 😍

Jeffrey from Atlanta, Georgia, back for his second visit, this time with his parents from Alabama. They came for Thanksgiving. Yes, this is quite typical weather for November on the Côte d'Azur.

This Sunday (23rd August) La Vuelta cycle race (Spain's equivalent of the Tour de France) will pass through Roquefort, along the main road around 1pm (roughly). Lots of big name cyclists taking part!

I do love a good bike race, even if you wait for ages and it's over in seconds!

Avant et pendant le passage de la course, la circulation sera temporairement interrompue par les organisateurs et les forces de l’ordre.
Perturbations à prévoir principalement entre 12h30 et 14h00.

👉 Venez nombreux au bord des routes pour encourager les coureurs et profiter de l’ambiance exceptionnelle de ce grand événement sportif. Alors, plutôt que de regarder passer la Vuelta derrière un écran, venez la vivre avec nous !
