J'ai rencontré ma patronne, Christine, lorsqu'elle a vendu ma maison après l'avoir inscrite sur ses registres pendant quelques semaines seulement, alors que deux autres agences avaient la propriété sur leurs registres depuis 18 mois. Au fil du temps, notre

passion commune pour les chevaux et cette merveilleuse région nous a permis de nouer une grande amitié. Il y a quelques années, Christine m'a parlé de travailler avec son agence indépendante comme agent commercial dans l'immobilier et j'ai été ravie de cette opportunité. The truth about abandoned French houses?
Most are not secretly waiting to become a Pinterest masterpiece for €37,000 and a hopeful attitude.

People often fall in love with: old stone walls faded shutters overgrown gardens romantic atmosphere And understandably so.

But many long-abandoned properties also come with: structural issues drainage problems roof repairs hidden moisture outdated electrics septic systems needing replacement years of deferred maintenance.

That does not mean they should be avoided.

Some of my clearest thinking happens on horseback.

Not in meetings.
Not staring at a screen.
Not rushing from one thing to the next.

Out here.

Along quiet tracks winding through the countryside beneath trees and birdsong.

This morning the hedgerows smelled of wild honeysuckle warming in the sun.
The streams were running gently after recent rain.
And somewhere in a nearby field, a group of cows caused absolute outrage by unexpectedly moving at the exact wrong moment according to my horse.

For a few dramatic seconds, he was entirely convinced we had narrowly escaped death.

Five minutes later he was back to strolling quietly along the lane as though nothing had happened.

And perhaps that is part of what I love most about riding here.

The freedom of it.

The feeling that there are still places where you can wander slowly for hours through woods, paddle through streams, explore tracks and tiny forgotten lanes without urgency.

People wave from garden gates as you pass.
Neighbours stop to chat about the weather, haymaking or whose dog has escaped this week.
And somehow the countryside still feels connected in a very human way.

Life is quieter here.

Not empty.

Just quieter in the best possible sense.

And sometimes, somewhere between the birdsong, the sunlight through the trees and the steady sound of hooves along old tracks, the mind finally settles a little too.
