September and October are two of the best months to visit Sarlat ☀️Cooler temperatures, fewer crowds and plenty of beautiful sunny days 😎 Just look at those fantastic temperatures 🌤️

And getting here is easy!

✈️ Flying to Brive? Flights from London Stansted to Brive Airport are still available until the end of October, on Fridays and Mondays with Ryanair 🛫 Ideal for a long weekend in Sarlat 😍

✈️ Flying to Bergerac? Flights with Ryanair available from several UK airports, including Bournemouth, Bristol, East Midlands, Edinburgh, Liverpool and London as well as to Leeds Bradford with Jet2!

September is the month of the festival 🥳 with TWO of Sarlat’s major annual festivals taking place:

- The national JOURNEES DU PATRIMOINE (Days of Heritage) when Sarlat celebrates its rich heritage and opens its doors to many of its treasured sites for free.
Every third weekend in September (19-20 Sept 2026). Thanks to our lovely guests for sharing their fabulous photos of last weekend with us 🤗

- The JOURNÉES DU GOÛT ET DE LA GASTRONOMIE (Gourmet Celebration Days) when Sarlat celebrates the gastronomy of the Périgord with an evening farmers’ market and music and dancing while you enjoy a meal in the open-air on Saturday evening. Then on Sunday you can join the drive of sheep into town followed by another celebratory lunch on Sunday.

October is quieter, with no events, just balmy days filled with sunshine ☀️ history and great food and w**e 🍷and masses of tickets available for all those attractions you can’t get tickets for during the peak summer months!

If much cooler climes ❄️ are your thing then Sarlat’s Christmas market is the largest Christmas Market in the Dordogne with its 70+ stalls, two ice rinks, food court and music and runs for the entirety of December, from 2-31 Dec.

🌙🕯️ Candlelit Evenings return to Marqueyssac ✨

On Saturday 6 June, experience the very first Candlelit Evening of the season in one of the Périgord’s most beautiful gardens.

As night falls, over 1,000 real candles light up the garden paths. Amidst the shadows of the sculpted box trees, the strains of music and fairies on stilts wandering through the park, the atmosphere becomes simply magical. ✨

On the programme:

🕯️ Over 1,000 real candles
🎶 Live music
🧚‍♀️ Fairies on stilts wandering through the park
🌿 A timeless stroll through the heart of the gardens

And to prolong the magic, the Candlelit Evenings will continue throughout the summer, every Thursday evening from 7pm to midnight:
