The Quercy region, in the Midi Pyrenees, essentially comprises of the Southern part the Lot, Northern half of the Tarn et Garonne and the southern part of the Lot et Garonne. Taking its name from the latin word Quercus meaning oak, the region has extensive oak forests. The beautiful
white limestone houses known as the Quercy blanc, the rolling hills and valleys and the beautiful hill top villages are popular features of the area. The Vineyards of Cahors, Chasselas table grape, sunflower fields, Quercy Melons and other fruit orchards including peach, apricot and plum fill the landscape. The rivers the Lot, the Tarn and the Garonne meander their way through the region and the Canal de la Garonne (becoming the Canal du Midi at Toulouse) passes through the south of the Quercy. Toulouse airport is just over 1 hour to the south and Bergerac airport 80 mns to the north. The Mediterranean and Atlantic beaches are approx 2.5 hrs drive away and the ski slopes of the Pyrenees just 3 hours away.
