Well… what a Pompadour week that turned out to be! 🐴🏆❤️
We knew Le Petit Bois was going to be busy for La Grande Semaine de Pompadour and the Festival de l’Anglo-Arabe, but I don’t think we quite appreciated what an extraordinarily talented collection of horses, breeders, owners and riders we were going to have staying with us — or quite how successful their week would be!
It all started for us with Christine Curt, whose young daughter Maëlys Curt Drevon was riding Christine’s homebred stallion Kos d’Eolle in the six-year-old Cycle Libre 2 eventing final. They finished a brilliant 13th out of 27, a pretty good start to proceedings! 👏🐴
Then it was the turn of Mapie and Patrick Sisqueille — Elevage de Jouetard — and they certainly brought home the silverware! Their Novak du Grasset AA was crowned Champion of the 3-year-old Males & Geldings, Section III 🏆, while N’oublie Pas added another fabulous result by finishing 3rd. 🥉 Two three-year-olds and two superb results!
Next came Murielle Clouvel-Davan and Élevage de Loma, with the gorgeous homebred Dzogchen de Loma AA, by Hand In Glove (USA) out of Varja de Loma AA (Don Pierre). Dzogchen scored a fantastic 16.90/20 to become French Champion of the Male Foals, Sections I & II. 🏆 He and mum were exemplary paddock guests here too, spending their days before their big day quietly grazing in the field next to our own Speedy and JonJo ❤️
That result was even more special for Murielle because Dzogchen is the second French Champion produced by Varja. His maternal half-sister Lungta de Loma AA was herself French Champion as a two-year-old in 2023 and was back competing at Pompadour this week, ridden by François Pons, in the five-year-old national eventing final.
Meanwhile, another little excitement was unfolding over at the hippodrome! Our lovely returning guests Ghislaine and Pascal - Bois l'Oiseau Elevage Ghislaine - had their homebred Connemara mare Mya du Bois Loiseau, ridden by Alex Zanello, competing in the four-year-old Young Pony Eventing Final.
After her model assessment, dressage and a clear showjumping round, Mya had worked her way into a fantastic 11th place. So it all came down to the cross-country — could she hold onto it, or perhaps even climb a little higher?
She produced a super cross-country round, inside the time and with good style marks, and did exactly what she needed to do 👏❤️ finishing 11th out of 39 ponies entered, a wonderful result for a four-year-old mare born and bred at home.
Looking back at it all now, it was quite a week. People and horses heading off to Pompadour after early morning breakfasts, everyone competing at different times, results being anxiously checked, messages flying backwards and forwards, and me trying to work out who I could go and watch between changeovers and check-ins!
And by the end of it, amongst our Le Petit Bois houseful we’d had two French Champions, a 3rd place, an 11th in a field of 39 and a 13th in a national final. Not a bad haul at all! 🥰🏆🐴
More than the prizes and placings, though, it is simply such a pleasure to have everyone here and to share a little bit of their excitement and passion with them.
Huge congratulations to Christine & Maëlys, Mapie & Patrick, Murielle, Ghislaine & Pascal, all their riders and their home teams — and, most importantly, all those wonderful horses. We have loved sharing your Pompadour 2026 with you. ❤️
And finally… everyone who stays here with horses seems to find the sign in our kitchen rather amusing. 😂
George and I always thought it was aimed at us because of the racing background. But after this week I’m beginning to think it should simply say:
⚠️ WARNING: MAY START TALKING ABOUT HORSES ⚠️
Because however a conversation starts — holidays, food, fuel prices, the weather, absolutely anything — give it ten minutes and somehow we’re back to horses again.
Every. Single. Time. 😂🐴
And we wouldn’t have it any other way. ❤️
